Suffixes worksheets for Grade 2 can help children explain how a word ending changes meaning. In Fantasticamos Suffix Springs: The Four-Fountain Rescue, learners join Ariel, Alice and Mr. Fluffernutter to restore four fountains by building words, reading sentence clues and repairing mixed-up signs.

Try the teaching style first: download the free six-page Suffix Springs sample. It includes the cover, four-suffix toolkit, a worked -ful lesson, guided practice, a short story and answer guidance. Selected original page numbers are intentionally retained.

What will my child learn?

Practice -ful as having or showing, -less as without, person -er as a person who does an action, and manner -ly as in that way. A helper is a person who helps; helpful describes giving help. Your learner will explain differences like these using the whole sentence, not just guess from the final letters.

  • Hope Fountain: build helpful, joyful and careful, then check the meaning in a short story.
  • Clear Fountain: explain cloudless, harmless and leafless with context clues.
  • Maker Fountain: use -er to name a painter, reader, singer, teacher and farmer.
  • Motion Fountain: explain how actions happen with slowly, softly, kindly and quickly.

Exactly what is included?

  • 32 unique pages, supplied as a 32-page premium color PDF and a matching 32-page white-background low-ink PDF. These are the same learning sequence, not 64 different lessons.

Who is it for, and how do we use it?

Designed for Grade 2 learners who can read or hear familiar base words, understand simple sentences and write a short word. An adult may read directions and record dictated explanations. Character ages are separate from the target grade. Start with the parent guide and readiness page, then complete one fountain at a time. Suggested short sessions are flexible; use the explanations to decide whether to move on or revisit an example.

You need a pencil and eight paper counters; crayons are optional. Cards can remain uncut. An adult handles scissors if you choose to cut them. The cooperative game rewards a correct word split, meaning and sentence; there is no timer.

Three Grade 2 suffix tasks ask learners to build playful, choose helpful from context, and repair helpfull, with generous writing lines.

What does this pack leave for later?

This focused word-meaning supplement uses unchanged base spellings. It does not teach consonant doubling, dropping a final e, changing y, comparative -er, all suffixes or every word ending. It is not a complete phonics, grammar or reading curriculum. No certified reading level or guaranteed learning outcome is claimed.

Printing and household permission

Digital download only; no physical item ships. Unzip the customer download, open either PDF in a PDF reader, and print US Letter portrait at actual size/100%. Choose the color or low-ink edition to suit your printer. This is a static printable, not a fillable app. One purchase licenses personal use by one household and its children, with reprinting for that household. It does not cover a classroom, co-op or redistribution.

White-background lesson with outline artwork and exact text showing slow plus ly makes slowly, meaning in a slow way.
