A John 2 family adventure

Cana: The Six-Jar Surprise

A wedding celebration faced a serious shortage. Six stone jars stood nearby. Discover what happened when the servants did exactly what Jesus said.

1 of 6 · A Wedding Problem

Chapter 1

A Wedding Problem

On the third day, a marriage took place in Cana of Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples were invited too. Then the wine ran out. For the family hosting the feast, this was not a tiny inconvenience—it was a public need they could not fix on their own.

“They have no wine.” John 2:3 KJV

Notice: Mary brought the need to Jesus. The story does not tell us she knew how he would answer.

Chapter 2

Mary's Instruction

Jesus said his hour had not yet come. Mary did not give the servants a complicated plan. She pointed them toward one trustworthy Person.

“Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.” John 2:5 KJV
Alice wonders: What makes obedience hard when we do not yet know how the story will turn out?

Chapter 3

Six Stone Jars

Two servants fill a clear row of exactly six stone jars while Jesus gives the instruction.

Nearby stood six stone waterpots used for purification. Jesus told the servants to fill them with water, and they filled them to the brim.

Fill all six. Activate each jar to add water.

0 of 6 jars filled.

Chapter 4

Draw Out Now

Next Jesus told the servants to draw some out and carry it to the governor of the feast. They carried it. The governor tasted what had become wine, but he did not know where it came from. The servants knew.

Put their faithful steps in order.

Choose the first step.

Chapter 5

The First Sign

The governor tastes from a cup while servants exchange knowing glances and Jesus stands calmly among the wedding guests.

The governor called the bridegroom and said the good wine had been kept until now. John calls this the beginning of miracles. Jesus manifested his glory, and his disciples believed on him.

The point is bigger than the jars: the sign showed who Jesus is and invited belief in him.

Chapter 6

Overflow at Home

Alice and one plush bunny prepare a basket with a towel, spoon, blank note, and loaf for a family kindness mission.

We cannot copy Jesus' miracle. We can copy the servants' readiness to obey. Choose one ordinary thing Jesus teaches—tell the truth, forgive, help, share, pray—and do it promptly.

Alice's mission: Ask, “Who needs help in our home today?” Choose one quiet act and finish it before bedtime.

Final Check

Choose one answer for each question. Then check your discoveries.

1. How many stone waterpots were there?
2. What did Mary tell the servants?
3. How full did the servants make the jars?
4. Who knew where the drink came from?
5. What did this first sign reveal?

A note for families

This restoration quotes the King James Version and keeps the story’s center where John places it: Jesus manifested his glory, and his disciples believed on him. Alice and Mr. Fluffernutter frame the learning adventure; they are not presented as eyewitnesses inside the Bible event.
