What is included?

30 unique pages, supplied in two matching 30-page PDFs: a premium color edition and a white-background low-ink edition with outline artwork. These are two print options for the same learning sequence, not 60 different lessons.

Inside: parent guidance and readiness checks; a reusable four-prefix toolkit; four illustrated missions; worked word-building examples; guided builds; sentence clues; look-alike word checks; a 16-word sort; eight reusable rescue cards and a cooperative game trail; an eight-item review; a sign-design project; three pages of answers and open-response criteria; and a progress certificate. There are 72 numbered activities across the pack, including oral and open tasks.

Careful Crossing lesson showing un plus kind becomes unkind, with story art and an illustrated response card.

What will my learner practice?

The Careful Crossing: un- meaning not, using unkind, unfair, unsafe and unsure. The Sign Workshop: re- meaning again, using repaint, reread, rebuild and refill. The Look-Ahead Lodge: pre- meaning before, using preview, prepay, preheat and prewash. The Thoughtful Summit: dis- meaning not or opposite, using disagree, dislike, disobey and distrust.

The story gives each mission a purpose: Ariel and Alice restore signs on a mountain trail with Mr. Fluffernutter along for the adventure. Learners write the new word, explain the meaning change and use context to choose a word. They also learn why ready is not re- plus a base word meaning again.

Three guided word-building signs with activity illustrations, writing spaces and Ariel's clue.

How do we use it at home?

Start with the four readiness checks. Teach one prefix at a time: say the base word, add the front part, read the whole word, and ask what changed. Use one or two pages in a short session, then revisit the words through the card game. Adults may read directions, accept oral explanations and scribe where useful. A suggested mission checkpoint is explaining three of four words with little help; it is a teaching guide, not a standardized score.

For a mini lesson you can try with paper scraps, read How to Teach Prefixes With Word Signs.

Eight illustrated prefix rescue cards with word-meaning clues and roomy cut lines.

Readiness, printing and boundaries

Suggested for Grade 2 learners who know the meanings of the base words and can read short sentences with adult support. This is a focused vocabulary and word-study supplement. It is not a fully decodable reader or a complete phonics curriculum. The mission teaches un- meaning not; its action-reversing use, other prefixes, suffixes and spelling-change rules are outside the taught scope.

Print on US Letter paper in portrait orientation at 100% / actual size. Choose color or low-ink. You need a pencil and one small counter. An adult can cut the optional game cards; pointing works without cutting. Oven vocabulary appears as a word example only; no cooking is required.

Low-ink word-sign practice with black outline art, white backgrounds and writing spaces.
