Who is Wordlight Woods for?
This Grade 1 supplement is for a learner who knows common consonant sounds and can already blend short-vowel words such as cap, pin and hop. It may also suit an older learner working on the same skill. Readiness matters more than age; the pack includes a simple readiness check.
What will my child practice?
Your reader compares short vowels with long a, i and o in a_e, i_e and o_e words. They build and spell words, sort patterns, use word meanings, read three short passages, explain mistakes and apply the patterns in a game and an original sentence. Adult prompts encourage looking at the letters and blending, rather than guessing from pictures.
Exactly what is included?
One customer ZIP includes Wordlight_Woods_Color.pdf (32 pages), Wordlight_Woods_Low_Ink.pdf (32 pages), and a customer printing/household-license guide. These are two editions of 32 unique content pages, not 64 unique lessons. Both editions have the same sequence, activity IDs and answers.
The 32 pages include a cover, two adult guidance pages, readiness check, mission/progress map, pattern lesson, three five-page missions, mixed practice, explanation/error check, cooperative game board, 18 cut-apart word cards, reusable word-work mat, untimed review, progress/certificate page and four adult answer pages. The low-ink edition has white backgrounds and line art.
How do we use it at home?
Choose one edition and print the pages you need on US Letter paper at actual size / 100%. Bring a pencil, an optional crayon and a small game token. An adult prepares the cut-apart cards. Read directions, framing and listed support words aloud. Practice a few words, blend together where needed and return to the words later. Keep the adult answer pages separate.
Does this teach every silent-e word?
No. This focused supplement teaches selected a_e, i_e and o_e words. It does not cover u_e, e_e, vowel teams, all final-e jobs, or a full phonics curriculum. English has exceptions, including have and give. The passages identify words an adult should preview; they are practice texts with support, not a claim that every child can decode every word unaided.
Is this a physical workbook or an editable file?
It is a printable digital download. No physical product is shipped. The PDFs are not editable worksheets or a fillable app. You do not need an app, account or color printer to use the low-ink edition.
May I use it with siblings or a co-op?
The household license permits printing for children in one purchasing household. It does not include classroom, school, co-op, public sharing or resale rights. Contact Blogging4Adventure for additional permission.
A helpful teaching starting point
Try cap → cape with a child who can already blend cap. Point out the final e, model /k/ /ā/ /p/, then blend cape. There are four letters and three sounds. See the companion article for a short, practical routine: How to teach silent e with cap and cape.
