What is inside Topic Treehouse?

Your customer ZIP contains a 30-page color PDF, a matching 30-page white-background low-ink PDF, and printing and household-license instructions. Both editions follow the same page order with the same activity IDs and answers. That is 30 unique pages supplied in two editions, including the cover, parent guidance, worked lessons, practice, game, project, progress page, and adult answer guide.

There are 65 answer-bearing activity IDs, including the 12 game cards. Open writing tasks include criteria and example responses. Learners have space to write and explain, and a framed panel for a small field-card drawing.

Four branches of reading practice

Topic Trail: name a topic that covers the whole card instead of choosing one tiny detail. Big-Idea Branch: express a complete message and spot choices that are too narrow or too broad. Evidence Canopy: collect supporting details, remove an off-topic sentence, and separate text evidence from guesses. Two-Paragraph Lookout: identify a whole-text topic and explain the focus of each paragraph.

How do I use it at home?

Begin with the three-question readiness check. Model a worked example, try the guided page together, then invite the learner to explain an independent response. Use the short checkpoint notes to decide what to revisit. Try 2-3 pages at a sitting, adjusting the pace to the learner. The reusable Branch Match game can be cut by an adult or played without scissors by recording card IDs.

Who is it for?

This focused Grade 2 supplement suits learners who can understand short paragraphs, with adult read-aloud help when needed. It is not a complete phonics or reading curriculum, a formally leveled reader, or a standardized assessment. Character ages do not determine the target grade.

Printing and household use

Digital download only; no physical item is shipped. Print US Letter portrait at 100% / actual size. Choose either edition and print just the pages you need. The low-ink version uses white backgrounds and line art. A pencil is enough for most activities; crayons and adult scissors are optional. One-household permission covers repeated use by your household members; classroom, co-op, redistribution, and resale permissions are not included.

Questions parents ask

Does it explain topic versus main idea? Yes. A topic names who or what a text is about; a main idea explains the text’s big message about that topic. The pack models both before independent work.

Are answers included? Yes. Pages 28-30 provide answers, alternative wording, writing criteria, game matches, and worked-example guidance.

Do I need a color printer? No. The matching low-ink PDF is designed for white paper and black-and-white printing.

Can a child answer aloud? Yes. The adult may read a passage and record an oral response when the goal is comprehension rather than handwriting or decoding.

Is the sample the whole product? No. It is six pages: five intentionally selected excerpts and one sample-only answer and use guide. Original page numbers are retained.

May I share it with my co-op? The included license is for one household. Share the product or sample link; do not upload or redistribute the purchased files.

Look inside the adventure

A worked lesson explains that keeping the treehouse tidy is the main idea supported by wiping boots, binning used paper and returning books. The main idea appears at the end.
A Grade 2 worksheet asks the learner to state the main idea of a craft-table passage and write two different supporting details.
Twelve printable cards mix three main ideas with nine supporting details about book care, a tidy craft desk and helping visitors find rooms.
White-background worksheet with line-art treehouse characters, a short craft-table passage and handwriting space for a main idea and two supporting details.
