What’s the most money you’ve ever spent on a meal? Was it worth it?
Let me paint the scene…
It was date night.
I was trying to be romantic. Impressive. The kind of guy who says things like “We’ll take the chef’s recommendation” even though I have no clue what the chef is recommending.
We ended up at a restaurant so fancy, they didn’t even have prices on the menu — just dramatic dish names like “Drizzle of Silence” and “Duck Two Ways (Emotionally and Financially).” I should’ve known I was in trouble when they brought out a single scallop on a plate the size of a manhole cover.
By the end, the bill was enough to make my debit card start sweating. I smiled politely while signing it, but internally I was screaming like a man watching his grocery budget vanish in real time.
Was it worth it?
Well… the food was beautiful. Like, museum exhibit beautiful.
The portions? Child-sized. Possibly infant-sized.
The waiter described the dessert as “a deconstructed dream of citrus” and honestly, I just wanted a brownie.
But you know what?
Despite my wallet needing therapy afterward, the look on her face when the candle flickered on that tiny tower of mousse? Priceless.
So yes — it was absolutely not worth the money.
And also, totally worth it.
Because love, like fancy cheese, sometimes stinks a little but sticks with you forever. 燎❤️

I absolutely hate when a restaurant tries to upscale their menu with fancy descriptions. My go-to move with Chef’s choice is no, unless I know the chef.
I think our most expensive meal was at Sushi Nakazawa in NYC – it was our splurge meal right before we moved away. That bill made us concurrently sad and also happy that we were moving lol.
