Stop HB445: Fluffernutter’s Furious Fable of Faith, Family, and Healing

Mr. Fluffernutter leaps over an HB445 scroll while Ariel holds a lantern and Alice looks shocked

By Mr. Fluffernutter

Stop HB445—that’s the rallying cry from one fluffy hero, two brave girls, and families who believe healing comes before politics. This is Mr. Fluffernutter, reporting from the cotton-lined comfort of Alice’s backpack—where, I must confess, the emotional temperature has skyrocketed to “boiling bunny.” Why, you ask? Because a certain group of lawmakers in Alabama (who clearly skipped the class on compassion and common sense) passed something called HB445. (You can read the official summary of this legislative misstep right here: Alabama Legislature HB445.)

Now, I’m just a wise and fuzzy bunny, but even I know a dreadful idea when I sniff it—and this one reeks of injustice.

💢 When Humans Play Politics with Lives. Stop HB445!

My favorite human (who bravely battles epilepsy every day) has been doing SO well. Thanks to a carefully tailored treatment plan—one that includes cannabis-derived medicine like CBD oil (which, while not FDA-approved for all forms of epilepsy, has shown success in treatment-resistant cases)—he’s been able to stay safe, conscious, and cuddle-capable. (Read how we’re managing epilepsy naturally and find strength in faith-filled journeying.)

Then along comes HB445, stomping through our lives like a blindfolded hippo in a bunny garden. This dreadful decision by Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama legislature bans access to certain cannabis-based medications. Forget medical expertise. Forget patient voices. Forget actual human lives.

HB445 says, “Nope, we’re smarter than your neurologist.”

(Studies have demonstrated that certain cannabinoid therapies can reduce seizures significantly for patients with epilepsy.)

😡 Dear Governor Ivey: You’ve Made a Mess! Stop HB445!

Governor Ivey, did you consult a single epilepsy patient before signing this disaster? Or were you too busy nodding along to misinformation like a bobblehead on a dashboard? If not, here’s your chance to catch up: Governor Ivey’s official site.

Because here’s what your law does:

  • It risks seizure relapses for patients who finally found relief.
  • It criminalizes compassionate care.
  • It sends a terrifying message: Your life matters less than our political image.

I may be just a bunny, but even I know the difference between a helpful law and a hurtful one. And HB445? That’s a carrot-shaped catastrophe.

💔 This Isn’t About Politics. It’s About People. Stop HB445!

Let me paint a picture (I’ve been taking watercolor lessons from Alice):

Imagine living in fear that today’s seizure will be the one you don’t wake up from. Now imagine being told the medicine that helped you might suddenly be illegal. Not because it doesn’t work. But because someone in Montgomery thinks they know better. The Epilepsy Foundation has long advocated for access to all treatment options for seizure control—especially for patients with rare or drug-resistant epilepsy. You can read more about their stance and patient stories here: Epilepsy Foundation.

That’s not policy. That’s persecution.

(If you want a softer reminder of what courage and listening look like, check out The Importance of Listening: A Bunny’s Tale—a gentle story of finding voices in a world that didn’t always listen.)

And let’s be very clear: this law hurts children, veterans, disabled parents, caregivers, and every single person who thought their state might one day listen with kindness instead of cruelty.

🛑 Bunnies Don’t Back Down! Stop HB445 Together!

So here’s what we’re doing:

  • We’re telling this story louder and fluffier than ever before.
  • We’re calling out HB445 for the nonsense it is.
  • We’re calling IN everyone who believes that people with chronic illness deserve care, not punishment.

To all my fellow fluffies, humans, and huggable allies: now is the time to write, call, pray, and shout (politely, but firmly).

🗺️ Adventure Challenge: Let’s Fix This Together! Stop HB445!

  1. Write your lawmaker (bonus bunny points for using glitter pens). You can find your Alabama representative here: Contact your Alabama representative.
  2. Share this blog post like it’s the last cookie at a tea party.
  3. Support epilepsy warriors by standing beside them in love and faith.

(Inspired action doesn’t start here—it’s built on a foundation of faith and resourcefulness, as we shared in “Seeing with Heart‑Eyes: Discovering God’s Love and Purpose”.)

🙏 A Final Thought from the Fluffy Frontier

Jesus didn’t shy away from flipping tables when the powerful used rules to harm the vulnerable. This, my friends, is a table-flipping moment.

HB445 is a broken law written by people who forgot to look into the eyes of those they hurt. But we see them. We love them. And we will not let this be the end of the story.

Because every brave soul fighting for their health deserves more than survival.

They deserve dignity.

They deserve hope.

They deserve their bunny by their side—armed with truth, compassion, and just the right amount of sass.

Fluffernutter, Out.
