Hi! I’m Ariel! Imagine standing barefoot in your backyard with raindrops plip-plopping into a bottle you made yourself. Now picture kids from all over the world—especially Filipino families—doing the same thing, not just for fun, but to love their neighbors and honor God. That’s exactly what Filipino water justice kids are doing! We’re turning recycled bottles into tools of kindness and learning how water isn’t just important—it’s holy.

Have you ever stopped to wonder where water comes from? Or how it gets to our sinks and cups? What if you could catch it like treasure falling from the sky? That’s what today’s mission is about—building a rain catcher, diving into God’s Word, and discovering how Filipino water justice kids are caring for creation one drop at a time!

What’s Happening: Rain Catchers and River Prayers

From cozy homeschool tables to buzzing Sunday School rooms, Filipino kids everywhere are joining a faith-and-science movement that’s all about water justice. But wait—what exactly is water justice?

Water justice means making sure every person—no matter where they live—can access safe, clean water. It’s fairness. It’s love in action. It’s saying, “Hey, God gave us water, so let’s share it like He shares it with us.”

God cares deeply about water. The Bible tells us in Isaiah 41:18, “I will open rivers in high places… I will make the wilderness a pool of water.” In Amos 5:24, we read, “Let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!” These verses remind us that water is a part of God’s promise—and that sharing it is part of our mission.

So we’re getting hands-on! Filipino water justice kids are crafting rain catchers, studying scriptures, and learning how being kind to creation is part of loving God.

Why It Matters to Our Adventure Crew

Last Saturday, Alice and I decided to make our very own rain catcher. Mommy saved some plastic bottles, Poppy helped us slice the tops off safely, and Yaya brought out her old gardening bucket. Fluffernutter? Oh, he showed up wearing swim goggles and a cape made from a washcloth. He declared himself “Raindrop Commander!”

We tied everything together with string, set the bottle upside down, and waited. Alice started dancing a “rain summoning” jig. Then Fluffernutter tripped over his own cape and landed face-first in the bucket. We laughed so hard I had to sit down.

But after all the giggles, Yaya told us something I’ll never forget. In some places, kids walk hours to get water that isn’t even clean. That’s not just sad—it’s unfair. God wants rivers of justice, not just puddles of privilege. Psalm 65:9 says God “waters the land and enriches it.” We’re supposed to pass that blessing along.

So now, every time it rains and we collect water in our little bottle, I think of those kids. I think of Jesus calling us to love, to share, to care. I whisper a prayer and thank God for what He gives—and ask how I can give it, too.

Caring for water = loving our neighbors.
Saving water = honoring God’s creation.
Building rain catchers = living God’s love out loud!

Try-It-Yourself: Water Justice Activities!

Ready to be a Filipino water justice kid, too? Let’s goooo!

Build a DIY Rain Catcher
Grab: a plastic bottle, scissors (ask an adult), mesh or cheesecloth, tape, and a bucket. Cut the top off, flip it upside down, tape the mesh on the spout, and rest it in the bottom half. Place outside. Ta-da! Now wait for raindrops! Write Isaiah 41:18 on it as your faith reminder.

Start a Water Gratitude Journal
Each day, write or draw one way water blessed you. Shower? Tooth brushing? Lemonade? Add a verse like John 4:14: “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.”

Minecraft Aqueduct Build Challenge
Create a pixel-perfect village water system in Minecraft! Add signs that say, “God provides!” or “Living Water flows here!”

Water Conservation Family Challenge
Set goals: 3-minute showers, no faucet running during teeth brushing, set up a mini rain barrel! Tie in Genesis 2:15: “The Lord put the man in the garden… to work it and take care of it.”

Quiz Time & Journaling Fun!

Quiz Questions:

  1. What does water justice mean?
  2. What verse says God makes the desert a pool of water?
  3. How can saving water be an act of love?

Journaling Prompt:
If I could design a rain catcher for a village in need, it would… Maybe it glows at night! Maybe it sings praises while collecting water! Imagine something wild and wonderful.

Wrap-Up Prayer

Dear God,
Thank You for waterfalls and droplets, puddles and rivers. Thank You for nourishing the earth and our hearts. Help us love our neighbors by caring for Your gift of water. Teach us to be generous, creative, and faithful stewards. Let justice roll like a river from our hands to the world. Amen.

Love,

💖 Ariel
