“I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” —Psalm 139:14
Today started like any other homeschool morning—until Mommy swept into the room with a grin and a mysterious box. Inside? Our lesson for the day: DNA. But this wasn’t just a science activity—it felt like stepping into one of God’s hidden workshops, where the tiniest details of life are spun with purpose and care.
Even Alice paused from her usual glitter-covered daydreaming to ask, “Does my DNA know I like purple jellybeans?” Mr. Fluffernutter, who always sits front and center for our lessons, nodded wisely. “Absolutely. That’s in your sparkle strand.”
Giggles gave way to wonder as we opened our kits, unrolling paper strips that became symbols of something far greater. We weren’t just crafting a model—we were holding a reminder that God formed each of us with incredible detail, love, and creativity.

God’s Design in a Twisty Ladder
As we opened our DNA model kits, the table lit up with color. Paper strips for the sugar-phosphate backbone. Brightly colored base pairs. Scissors, glue, and scripture cards filled every inch of space. It looked like craft time—but it felt like a quiet moment of awe.
Each time I matched A with T and C with G, I thought about how deliberate everything in our world is. Mr. Fluffernutter even suggested the helix might be a trampoline for microscopic angels. That made Alice laugh until she fell off her chair.
But beneath the laughter, I started to realize something big. This wasn’t just a structure—this was a symbol of God’s intentionality. Psalm 139 came to life in a whole new way.

What Is DNA—God’s Secret Song?
DNA—short for deoxyribonucleic acid—is like a divine set of instructions wrapped tightly into every single cell. It tells your body how to grow, heal, blink, breathe, and smile.
It’s not random. It’s a song. A script. A prayer. And in each one of us, God’s fingerprints are written into this intricate spiral.
Psalm 139:14 reminds us: “You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” That means every single part of you—every cell, every feature—isn’t just biology. It’s a work of love.

Craft Time: DNA Origami!
After reading and researching, it was time to get hands-on. Our table became a swirl of color and creativity.
We cut long strips for the backbone and shorter ones for the base pairs—red with yellow, blue with green. Each time we paired A with T and C with G, we said a prayer or whispered a verse. Alice decided hers spelled “UNICORN,” until Fluffernutter corrected her by folding a strand labeled “C-A-R-R-O-T.”
Mommy guided us gently as we twisted the strands into helix shapes. The paper curled and danced like ribbons, and I could almost imagine our own cells swirling with God’s instructions. Scripture Connection
“Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: ‘I am the Lord, who made all things.’” —Isaiah 44:24
These verses remind me that God didn’t just build the universe. He built me and you with the tiniest building blocks. And He didn’t make any mistakes. Every twist in that DNA model? He planned it out with love.

Science + Faith = Wonder!
Dr. Francis Collins, who helped decode the human genome, calls DNA “the language of God.” He believes studying biology is a way to worship—a view shared by many at BioLogos, the organization he founded.
Some people try to separate science and faith. But for me, learning about DNA only brought me closer to God. Each molecule shows God’s brilliance. Each strand shows His love.

DIY Kit & Printable Template
My mom helped us make a printable DNA origami template with Scripture verses on each base pair. You can color it, cut it, and twist it into your own double helix! There’s also a page of faith-based science journal prompts like:
- What did you learn about God’s creativity from DNA?
- How can studying the human body bring you closer to God?

Faith-Filled Family Reflections
At dinner, our DNA models sat proudly near our plates. Poppy said, “Isn’t it wild that something so small can hold so much truth?”
Yaya added, “God knew every part of you before you even had a name.”
Alice smiled and said, “I think Fluffernutter’s DNA is made of hugs and jellybeans.” We laughed so hard Daddy almost dropped his fork.
Then Poppy leaned back and said, “If DNA can make bones and eyelashes, imagine what God’s doing inside your heart.”
We all went quiet. Some truths don’t need big words. They just need to be felt.

Let’s keep discovering His design—one base pair at a time. 🧬💖

Wrap-Up Prayer
Dear God, Thank You for making us with such amazing design. Help us see Your wisdom in every cell and every smile. When we learn new things, let us remember that You are the Creator behind it all. Amen.
