By Alice
Okay so—once upon a kaboomy day, I accidentally turned the living room into a volcano stage. Like, a REAL one. (In my head.) With lava. That sneezes. And sings.
Wait—does that mean volcanoes have noses?! 😳
Anyway. It all started when Ariel said, “Volcanoes erupt because of pressure and heat.” But I definitely heard, “Volcanoes BURP because they’re stuffed with spicy rocks and hot cheese.” So OBVIOUSLY, I had to investigate.
That’s when Fluffernutter put on his rockstar cape (okay, it was a towel, but it totally had sparkle-power) and declared:
“We must stop the Lava-Sneezing Volcano before it melts the snack table!”
So brave. So fuzzy. So probably going to need a mop.
We packed our supplies: marshmallows (for lava-testing), chocolate (in case of emergencies), and a chart (I drew a lava map—it’s mostly scribbles and one jellybean). Then we set off. Into the RUMBLE ZONE. Dun dun duuuuun.
Do volcanoes always sound like angry tummies? Because this one went GRR-BLAAARRRGHHH and Fluffernutter almost flew off the couch.
But guess what? God made volcanoes AND brave bunnies. So we knew we’d be okay.
Even lava burps can’t stop us when we’ve got God’s courage, some cookies, and a bunny with a helmet made of foil. 💖🔥🐰

🎒 Mission: Alice and the Magnificent Magma Quest
Mr. Fluffernutter squinted at the glittery map and whispered,
“We must begin with the squishy ones—the sedimentary rocks.”
So I did what any five-year-old science hero would do: I made a Sedimentary Sandwich. Ingredients?
- Crushed Cheerios (crunchy layer)
- Old leaf pieces (nature layer)
- A splash of glitter glue (for stickiness and sparkle)
Then—I SAT ON IT. Because Ariel said sedimentary rocks get made with pressure. And my bottom is very powerful.
Did it turn into a rock? NOPE.
It turned into a goo-glue crunch puddle that smelled like cereal and autumn.
I looked at Mr. Fluffernutter. He nodded slowly and said,
“Patience, Alice. Real rocks take millions of years.”
Millions?!
I crossed my arms and shouted:
“BUT I’M FIVE.” 😤
💡 Faith Sparkle Moment:
Even when we don’t see results right away, God is still working underneath. Just like how sediment turns into stone over time, God grows strong things in us while we wait.
“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.” —Psalm 37:7
So maybe my goo sandwich isn’t a rock yet… but it’s a start! 💖🪨✨
🤔 What About You?
Can you think of something God’s been growing in your heart, even if you don’t see it yet?
Have you ever tried to make something that didn’t work… right away?
What helps you stay patient (besides glitter and snacks)?

💎 Fluffernutter Goes Metamorphic!
One second, Mr. Fluffernutter was just a normal brave bunny…
The next—✨💥**POOF!**💥✨—he started to sparkle like a birthday cake wrapped in stardust.
Then he stood up on his tiny stuffed feet, raised one paw dramatically, and declared:
“I AM NO LONGER JUST FLUFFERNUTTER!
I AM… MARBLE FLUFFERNUTTER! 💫
HEAR MY CRYSTAL WISDOM!”
I gasped. “Whoa. Did metamorphic rocks just make you royal?!”
He nodded. “When rocks—or bunnies—get squished and heated underground, they turn into metamorphic rocks. Like marble. Or slate. Or brave sparkle warriors of geological glory.”
Then he demanded triangle-shaped carrots (his official snack now, apparently) and started speaking in rhymes. Because science is weird… and kinda fabulous.
🧠 Rock-Smart Science Fact!
Metamorphic rocks are formed when existing rocks are put under intense heat and pressure—deep, deep underground! That’s what turns something plain into something strong, shiny, or even sparkly… just like God can do with us.
✝️ Faith Reflection: God’s Pressure Makes Us Shine
Sometimes life feels squishy or hot or confusing—like you’re being turned into soup. But guess what? That’s often when God is working the most!
“We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope.” —Romans 5:3–4
So even if you’re not turning into marble (yet), God is shaping you into something strong, beautiful, and full of hope. 💖💎
🤔 What About You?
Have you ever had a moment where you felt like God was changing you in a big or sparkly way?
Can you think of a time when you were under pressure and learned something new about yourself or God?
What kind of “rock” do you think you’d be? Shiny marble? Glitter granite?

🌋 Volcano Mayhem at Laundry Mountain
Next on our rock adventure quest? We had to discover igneous rocks—the kind that come from melted, fiery stuff that cools into something awesome.
So naturally…
We climbed Laundry Mountain (a.k.a. the GIANT sock volcano in Mommy’s room). It was squishy, wobbly, and smelled like last Tuesday.
Mr. Fluffernutter sniffed the air, then suddenly—
“AH-CHOOOOO!” 💥💫
He sneezed sparkle lava into the air! (Totally invisible, but I felt it in my soul.)
“IT’S A LAVA-SNEEZING VOLCANO!” I screamed,
then launched myself down the mountain like a sock luge champion in fuzzy pajama pants.
At the bottom, we discovered a crusty gray sock with weird squiggles that looked like cooled lava.
We named it Bob.
Bob is now our official pet igneous rock.
Also: he might be a wizard.
(He hasn’t denied it.)
🔥 Science Rocks!
Igneous rocks are formed when hot, melted magma cools and hardens—kind of like when lava comes out of a volcano and turns into stone! They can be super smooth or rough and crunchy like burnt toast. (Don’t eat them.)
✝️ Faith Moment: God Makes Cool Things from Heat
Volcanoes might seem messy or scary, but they create new land, grow new soil, and remind us that God can bring beauty out of the hottest messes.
“He makes all things new.” —Revelation 21:5
Even Laundry Mountain.
🤔 What About You?
What’s something hot, hard, or tricky that God helped you through?
Have you ever turned a mess into something magical or meaningful?
If you had a pet rock, what would you name it? Would it have powers?

🎸 Alice’s Rockin’ Recap!
Okay okay OKAY—so thanks to Ariel’s rock-o-rific paper (and Fluffernutter’s sparkle sneezes), I now totally understand the rock cycle. Wanna hear the coolest parts? Buckle up your geology goggles!
🔥 Igneous Rocks = Lava Babies!
Igneous rocks are made when lava goes KA-BOOOOM 💥 and then cools down into solid rock. Like, the volcano says, “I’m done!” and the lava hardens into stuff like granite or basalt.
Sometimes it cools super slow and turns all sparkly…
Other times, it cools fast and gets rough and bumpy like a burnt cookie.
“From fire to firm—God brings shape from chaos.” 🙌
🥪 Sedimentary Rocks = Layered Snack History!
These are made of smooshed-up bits like sand, seashells, and possibly sandwich crumbs (don’t quote me). They stack up in layers, get pressed together for a zillion years, and turn into rocks that are like nature’s diaries.
Some even have fossils in them! Which is like rock-TikTok for dinosaurs. 🦕
“He remembers all generations.” —Psalm 105:8
Even the sandwich-y ones.
💎 Metamorphic Rocks = Rock Glow-Ups!
These rocks are fancy. Like, REALLY fancy. Because they used to be regular rocks…
until they got baked and squished under the Earth like a sparkly princess makeover!
Limestone can become marble. Shale can become slate.
Fluffernutter can become Marble Fluffernutter: Defender of Volcano Justice. 👑🐰
“We are God’s workmanship.” —Ephesians 2:10
Even if we started out as sidewalk gravel.
🔁 Rock Cycle = God’s Creative Remix
Here’s the best part: The rock cycle never stops. It just keeps going like my brain after too many jellybeans.
- Lava becomes rock
- Rock breaks down into pieces
- Pieces get squished into layers
- Layers get squashed and cooked
- Rocks change, restart, repeat!
And guess what? That’s kinda like US.
God shapes us, grows us, and even when we’re all crumbly or melty or in-between, He’s still working.
🤔 What About You?
How has God been shaping you lately?
If you were a rock, which kind would you be today—lava-fresh? squishy-layered? sparkly-marble-fabulous?
Have you ever felt like you were changing or growing into something stronger, even when life felt pressurized?

🎉 Alice’s Official Cheer for Ariel the Rock Star!
🎶
R-O-C-K! She knows the way!
Big Sis Ariel saves the day!
Granite! Limestone! Marble too!
She teaches science like—WOOHOO!
🎶
Can we all agree that Ariel is a science genius and also the queen of rock facts?
She wrote this mega-amazing paper that explains ALL the things about the rock cycle—like how igneous rocks form after volcano explosions (ka-BOOM!), how sedimentary rocks stack like nature’s lasagna, and how metamorphic rocks get sparkly under pressure. 💎
“She speaks with wisdom…” —Proverbs 31:26
That’s totally my sister. 🙌

🖍️ Rocks You Can Make? YES, PLEASE!
My favorite part?
Ariel even made a science experiment where you turn old crayons into new rocks.
CRAYONS, PEOPLE. MELTY, MAGICAL, SCIENCE ROCKS! 🖍️💥
You stack different colors, melt them (with grown-up help!), and let them cool—just like the real rock cycle.
It’s called “The Crayon Rock Lab”, and it’s officially Alice-approved.
(Spoiler: Fluffernutter tried to eat one. It looked delicious.)
🪨 Wanna Rock Like Ariel?
Have you ever taught someone younger something you love? (Like Ariel teaches me!)
What’s your favorite kind of rock—sparkly marble? sandy sandstone? sneaky obsidian?
Can you come up with your own cheer about something you learned this week?

🐰 Bonus Alice Tip: Become a Certified Rock Explorer!
Okay okay OKAY—do you want to become an official Rock Explorer like me and Fluffernutter? Of course you do. It’s a serious job full of discovery, snacks, and faith-fueled fun.
Here’s what you’ll need for your backyard geology adventure:
✅ A magnifying glass
(Or just squint your eyes and pretend you have super-vision. It totally works.)
✅ A banana 🍌
(For emergencies only. Or for potassium. Or for slipping dramatically.)
✅ A brave stuffed bunny 🐰
(Who offers wise rock opinions and isn’t afraid of volcano sneezes.)
✅ A sandwich 🥪
(Optional—but highly recommended for morale and scientific chewing.)
✅ Ariel’s Rock Cycle Paper 💖
Because learning is 99.7% more fun when your big sister explains stuff and lets you color on it.
“Two are better than one… for if they fall, one will lift up the other.” —Ecclesiastes 4:9–10
Teamwork = science + snacks + sisterhood!
🪨 Explorer Questions for Your Family Adventure:
Have you ever worked on a project together as a family? What made it extra fun or meaningful?
Can you find three different types of rocks near your home? What stories do you think they tell?
What would you name your rock squad? (Ours is “The Glitter Geodes.”)

💌 From Alice, With Geological Giggles
To my brilliant big sister, Ariel:
Your rock cycle paper ROCKS. Like, literally.
I’m so proud of you, I might metamorphosize into a sparkly potato and roll down Laundry Mountain in a flurry of joy and jellybeans. 🌋🥔💖
You showed me that the ground under our feet isn’t just dirt and worms—it’s stories, secrets, and sock-shaped lava friends just waiting to say hi. 😄🧦
“The whole Earth is full of His glory.” —Isaiah 6:3
Even the parts with glitter glue and banana peels.

📣 To All Future Rock Explorers Out There:
Go outside. Right now. Find a rock. Name it Fred.
Then whisper, “Thank you for being part of Earth’s epic story.”
Because every pebble is a piece of God’s creativity.
Every fossil is a tiny echo from long ago.
Even Bob the Lava Sock has a story (he claims he used to be a volcano prince, but Fluffernutter remains skeptical).
When we stop and really look at the world around us, even rocks turn into treasures.
Even mud becomes a mystery.
Even science becomes a sparkly, faith-filled adventure.

🐰 Final Bounce of Bravery:
Stay curious. Stay kind.
Don’t sit on lava.
(Trust me. Learned that the gooey way.)
And remember:
You were made to explore God’s world, one glitter-glued rock at a time. 💫✝️🪨
Love always,
Alice the Explorer,
Fluffernutter the Sparkly,
and Bob the Lava Sock 🐰✨🧦
