Hi friends! It’s Ariel again—your not-so-average notebook explorer, Bible journal scribbler, and honorary captain of Team Discovery!
This week, something amazing happened.
Our Time Audit Machine (yes, the one with blinking buttons, squeaky wheels, and an extra snack drawer for emergency jellybeans) transported us into a letter written almost two thousand years ago. Can you believe it? We landed right inside 2 John 1:1–3, and I got to peek at one of the earliest Christian postcards EVER.
But here’s the twist—this wasn’t just any old letter. It was a love note packed with truth.
Like… real truth. God-sized truth. The kind that hugs you like a warm blanket and shines like your flashlight during a backyard night hike.
John (you know, the apostle who walked with Jesus and probably had the coolest sandals in the New Testament) reminded his friends that truth and love go together like grace and glitter. You can’t have one without the other, and both come straight from the heart of Jesus.
Honestly? That got me thinking.
What if truth is like the compass in our hands…
…and love is the map that leads us home?
So buckle up, fellow explorers—because today we’re diving into what it really means to live in truth and walk in love. 🧭💖
Not just on Sundays. Not just when it’s easy. But all the time.
Are you ready for an adventure through God’s Word that might just change how you see everything?
Let’s go discover it—together.
📝✨

🧱 Truth and Love: Building Blocks of Real Faith
During our cozy family Bible study night (the one with popcorn and highlighters), Daddy opened his Bible to 2 John 1:1–3 and said something that stuck with me like glitter on a glue stick.
“John’s letter,” he said, “is all about truth and love. They’re like the foundation and walls of our faith—you can’t build anything solid without both.”
That made my curiosity antennae pop up.
“Wait,” I asked, “why does John talk about truth and love so much? Why those two?”
Daddy leaned back in his chair, thoughtful. “Because everything about the Christian life is built on knowing the truth about Jesus and living out that truth through love. Without truth, love can get lost. And without love, truth can feel cold. But together? They reflect Jesus.”
💡 Faith Fact: Truth is our compass, and love is our walk.
He kept going—and I took notes, of course.
“Think of truth like a foundation,” Daddy said. “It tells us who Jesus really is and what God wants for us. When we know the truth, we can live with purpose. And when we live that truth with love, we become a light for others.”
Alice—who was dramatically cradling Mr. Fluffernutter like a truth-sensing bunny—whispered, “So… we need both to live like Jesus?”
“Exactly!” said Yaya, smiling like she just found a treasure map. “Truth helps us love wisely. Love helps us live out truth bravely. They work together to show the world what it really means to follow Christ.”
I scribbled that down in bold letters.
“Truth without love feels sharp.
Love without truth feels soft.
But together—they’re strong, kind, and Jesus-shaped.”
Daddy nodded and added, “Look at how Jesus lived. His love wasn’t random or wishy-washy. He loved on purpose, guided by truth. He called people to righteousness, healed with compassion, and always pointed them to God’s kingdom.”
And wow, that got me thinking…
What if every time we share the truth in kindness, we’re planting seeds of real faith in someone’s heart?
What if love isn’t just a feeling, but a way of living that shines brighter when truth lights the path?
🧠 Let’s Wonder Together
- Can you think of a time when telling the truth in love made a big difference?
- Who do you know that reflects both truth and love in their actions?
- How can you show someone God’s love and truth this week?
📝 Maybe write them a note, say a kind truth, or pray that God helps you shine like Jesus in everything you do.

💖 Why Truth Makes Our Love Stronger
Have you ever wondered what makes love real?
Not just warm and fuzzy feelings, but deep-down, Jesus-shaped love that knows what’s true and sticks with you through anything?
That’s what I started thinking about when Daddy read aloud from 2 John 1:1:
“The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth.”
Then he said something that made my heart do that thoughtful pause thing.
“John’s love isn’t just emotional,” Daddy explained. “It’s grounded in truth. Not the world’s kind of truth that shifts around, but the unchanging truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. That kind of love doesn’t just feel—it knows.”
🧭 True Love Needs a Compass
I tilted my head and asked, “So… truth is what makes our love point in the right direction?”
Daddy smiled. “Exactly. Truth is like the compass, and Christian love is the journey. When we love others through the lens of God’s truth, we help them walk toward Him—not away.”
Then he said something that gave me one of those scribble-it-in-bold Bible journal moments:
“Without truth, love can drift.
Without love, truth can sting.
But together—they become the love of Christ: clear, strong, and full of grace.”
He even brought up how people often say things like “love is love” in the world today. “But if we don’t understand what love means through Scripture, we can get lost,” Daddy said. “True biblical love doesn’t ignore sin or hard conversations. It’s courageous, because it’s built on truth and grace.”
That really got me thinking.
💬 Love That Helps Us Grow
I asked, “So love without truth might actually hurt people—if it lets them stay in something harmful?”
Daddy nodded. “Absolutely. When we love like Jesus, we don’t just hug people—we help them grow. He loved sinners but still called them to change. That’s how truthful love works—it challenges us, but always for our good.”
Yaya joined in then (she’s always good at landing a big point softly).
She said, “Real love doesn’t just accept—it nurtures. It encourages us to become more like Christ. It’s not about agreeing with everything—it’s about pointing each other to Jesus, no matter what.”
I looked at my notebook and wrote down:
“Love guided by truth =
Grace with direction.
Kindness with courage.
Friendship that lifts us higher.”
Daddy added, “And the best part? We don’t have to do this alone. When we let God’s truth into our hearts, the Holy Spirit helps us love better. Deeper. Braver.”
✨ Let’s Talk About It
- Have you ever had to tell someone a hard truth because you loved them?
- What’s one way you can show someone the truth and love of Jesus this week?
- Can you think of a time when someone told you a loving truth—and it helped you grow?
📖 Read 2 John 1:1 again and ask:
How does love change when it’s rooted in truth?

🌱 Living in Fellowship Through God’s Truth and Love
Sometimes when I read the Bible, I find a verse that feels like a forever promise—one that hugs your heart and says, “This is never going away.”
That’s exactly how it felt when Daddy read 2 John 1:2:
“For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us forever.”
He looked up from his Bible and said, “Truth isn’t just something we memorize or talk about—it’s something that lives inside us.”
Whoa. That made me stop and think.
💖 Truth That Stays
Daddy explained that when we welcome Jesus into our hearts, His truth becomes part of us. It’s not just words—it’s a living presence that grows like roots in our soul. It shapes how we love, how we act, how we believe.
“It’s more than just facts,” he said. “Living in God’s truth means carrying His love, grace, and promises wherever we go. That’s what real Christian fellowship looks like—it’s built on a shared truth that never fades.”
Alice looked up from hugging Mr. Fluffernutter, her forehead all scrunched with curiosity.
“But what if life gets really, really hard?” she asked. “Does the truth stay then too?”
Daddy smiled gently. “Especially then.”
“God’s truth doesn’t leave when things get messy.
It anchors us.
It holds us when we feel like we’re falling.”
That made me want to write it in my Bible margins with sparkly ink.
🧭 Anchored in Fellowship
Daddy went on to say that life brings storms—confusing days, disappointments, or even doubts. But when we cling to the unchanging truth of the gospel, we’re not alone. It connects us to God and to each other.
Fellowship through truth and love means we walk together. We lift each other up. We remind one another of who God is—and who we are in Him.
When the world shakes, God’s truth stands.
When we feel weak, His love strengthens.
When we’re unsure, His Word guides us.
Truth builds bridges. Love builds community. And both together build us.
✨ Let’s Reflect Together
- Have you ever felt God’s truth comfort you during a hard moment?
- What’s one promise from Scripture that gives you peace?
- Who in your life helps remind you of God’s love when you feel down?
📖 Try memorizing 2 John 1:2 this week—and ask:
How can I let God’s truth “dwell in me” every day?

💌 Grace, Mercy, and Peace — Gifts Wrapped in Truth and Love
Some verses feel like a warm hug. This one? It felt like God handing me a care package for my soul:
“Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.”
—2 John 1:3 (KJV)
When Daddy read that out loud, I imagined it wrapped in glowing ribbon, like a love note from Heaven.
He smiled and said, “John’s greeting reminds us of the amazing gifts God gives when we walk in truth and love. Grace. Mercy. Peace. These aren’t just fancy church words—they’re tools for life, straight from God’s heart.”
🎁 What Do These Gifts Really Mean?
Of course, I had a million questions (like usual).
“Wait—what exactly are grace, mercy, and peace?”
Daddy explained it like this (and yes, I totally doodled it in my Bible journal with glitter stars):
- Grace is God’s kindness we don’t earn.
Like when we mess up, but He still says, “You’re mine. I love you.” - Mercy is God holding back the consequences we do deserve.
It’s His way of rescuing us gently, even when we’ve made a big mess. - Peace is the calm that fills our hearts when we know we’re safe with Him.
It’s not just quiet—it’s confidence. Reassurance. A soul-sigh that says, “God’s got me.”
Then Daddy added something I wrote in the margins:
“When we walk in truth and love, these gifts don’t just stay inside us…
They overflow into the lives around us.”
Isn’t that beautiful?
🌍 From God’s Heart to Ours… to Others
Daddy said that when we receive grace, mercy, and peace from God, we become better at sharing those same things with others. Like:
- Showing grace to someone who made a mistake
- Offering mercy instead of revenge
- Bringing peace into a tense moment
Truth and love aren’t just what we believe—they’re how we live, how we treat people, and how we remind the world who Jesus is.
🪁 Let’s Explore Together
- Which of these three gifts—grace, mercy, or peace—do you need most right now?
- Can you think of a time when someone showed one of these to you?
- How could you share one of these blessings with someone this week?
📖 Write down 2 John 1:3 and ask:
How can I carry these gifts in truth and love today?

🛠️ Practical Ways to Live in Truth and Love
After exploring John’s words about truth and love in 2 John 1:1–3, we gathered around the kitchen table (with apple slices and Bible highlighters, of course!) and came up with ways we could actually live this out.
And guess what? It’s not just about what we know—it’s about what we do.
Here are three ways our family brainstormed for living in truth and love every day:
💬 Living Out the Truth with Love
I said, “I think we can show love by being honest—like, really honest—but also kind. That’s what Jesus did, right?”
When we’re truthful with kindness, people trust us more. And that trust makes relationships feel safe, warm, and real. When our honesty is dipped in gentleness, it reflects the character of Christ—and that’s what helps our communities grow strong in faith and love.
“Speak the truth in love.” —Ephesians 4:15
🟢 Faith-in-Action Idea:
Try writing a kind truth to a friend this week—something encouraging that also points them toward Jesus.
🕊️ Sharing God’s Grace and Peace
Daddy said something I immediately scribbled in the corner of my journal:
“When we live in the truth, we carry grace and peace wherever we go.”
That means our words and actions can actually change the atmosphere around us. When we act in love, speak gently, and live with integrity, we create a space where people feel safe, seen, and valued—just like Jesus made people feel.
And the coolest part? Sharing truth and love spreads. Like holy chain reactions of kindness and courage!
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” —Colossians 3:15
🟢 Faith-in-Action Idea:
Make a “Peace and Grace Plan”—one loving action you’ll take this week, and one moment you’ll stay calm even when it’s hard.
🛡️ Guarding Against Falsehood
Yaya (aka our family’s wisdom ninja) reminded us that truth and love must always stick together.
She said, “If we leave out truth, love can turn into flattery. And if we forget love, truth can come out harsh.”
That made me think: Every time I speak or act, I’m holding both a compass and a flashlight. The compass is truth—it points me to God’s way. The flashlight is love—it shows others how to walk beside me.
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” —Psalm 119:105
🟢 Faith-in-Action Idea:
Before sharing something online or with a friend, pause and ask: Is this loving? Is it true? Will it help someone grow closer to Jesus?
💡 Let’s Reflect Together
- When is it hard to speak the truth in love—and how can you ask God for help?
- What’s one way you can carry grace and peace into your home, school, or neighborhood?
- Can you think of a time when telling the truth in kindness made a big difference?
📝 Try journaling one sentence each day this week that reflects how you lived in truth and love.

👨👩👧👧 Family Challenge: Living in Truth and Love (One Cookie at a Time!)
This week, we started something new—and honestly? It might be one of my favorite things we’ve ever done as a family!
We called it the “Truth and Love Challenge”—a simple plan to practice Christian kindness and live out God’s truth in our everyday routines. Each day, we picked one small way to reflect truth and love in real life.
And guess what? It turned out to be more heart-sprinkled and cookie-flavored than I imagined.
🧁 Cookies, Kindness, and a Big Lesson
My favorite part? Baking cookies with Alice for a friend who was feeling a little down. (Spoiler: Alice insisted we add extra chocolate chips because “sadness melts faster with chocolate.” She’s probably right.)
We mixed and stirred and made a glittery mess in the kitchen—but something special happened between the giggles and flour puffs. Kindness felt big. Bigger than the cookies. Bigger than the oven timer. Bigger than the words we could’ve said.
When our friend opened the door and smiled after that first bite…
my heart just melted. Right there. Like the chocolate chips.
“Let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” —1 John 3:18
💬 A Story That Stuck with Us
Later that week, Daddy called us into the living room and shared a story from his own life—about a time when he had to tell a friend something hard, but he did it gently, with truth and love. And that conversation? It changed that person’s life.
We all sat in quiet amazement. It reminded us that truth by itself can be sharp… but truth wrapped in love can heal.
“Speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ.” —Ephesians 4:15
🌱 Little Actions, Lasting Impact
Every moment of our family truth and love challenge—even the quiet ones—helped us live out what the Bible teaches.
- Helping a neighbor with groceries? ✅
- Being honest about how we felt? ✅
- Encouraging someone who looked lonely? ✅
These simple acts became reminders that living in truth and love doesn’t have to be flashy or loud. It just needs to be real.
🧠 Let’s Reflect Together
- What’s one small way you could show truth and love this week?
- Have you ever done something kind that made a bigger impact than you expected?
- What can your family do to build a truth-and-love habit together?
📖 Try reading 1 John 3:18 as a family and asking:
What does love look like in action today?

🦋 Final Thought: Walking in Truth and Love—Together
After spending time with John’s powerful words in 2 John 1:1–3, one thing feels clearer than ever:
Truth and love aren’t two separate paths—they’re the same road.
Like rails on a track or wings on a butterfly, they work together to carry us forward in our walk with Jesus.
When we walk in truth, we know who God is.
When we live in love, we show who God is to others.
Daddy once said, “Truth points us north. Love carries us there.” I think that’s why these two principles are so important—they’re the foundation of a faithful life and the heartbeat of healthy, Christ-centered relationships.
✨ Love That Reflects the Gospel
When we love others like Jesus does—with honesty, gentleness, and grace—we don’t just build friendships…
We shine His truth into a world that sometimes feels dark or confusing.
Whether it’s offering a kind word, standing up for what’s right, or just listening with compassion, each act of truthful love is a tiny beam of light pointing back to God’s heart.
🌍 Let’s Make Ripples That Matter
We don’t have to be perfect. (I mean, even our family challenge had some hilarious cookie fails and sibling squabbles!)
But when we try—when we choose to live with grace, mercy, and truth—something amazing happens.
We create ripples.
Ripples of kindness.
Ripples of courage.
Ripples that remind others that God is good and His love is real.
📖 Read John’s words again (2 John 1:1–3) and ask:
What does it look like to walk in truth and love today?
Let’s keep walking together—step by step, truth by truth, love by love.
With sparkles of joy and a heart full of hope,
Ariel 💖
