Guess what I noticed this week?
Our family talks a lot—in the car, around the dinner table, and even while brushing Bash (who, by the way, does not like being brushed). But there’s something extra special about the way we talk when we’re face to face—like heart-to-heart, soul-to-soul kind of talking. Not just emoji chats or “k-thx” texts… but real, warm, look-you-in-the-eyes fellowship.
That got me thinking—does God care about how we connect with others, not just what we say?
Spoiler alert: He does.
This week, I explored a tiny Bible letter called 3 John—just 15 verses long but packed with something BIG. In verse 13–14, the writer basically says, “I’ve got so much to tell you, but I’d rather say it in person. See you soon—with hugs and joy!” Okay, maybe that’s my paraphrase, but seriously—it made me wonder:
🕊️ Why does face-to-face fellowship matter so much in God’s plan?
🧭 What happens when faith moves beyond words on a page and into shared smiles, real conversations, and peanut-butter-and-jelly prayers with people we love?
So grab your Bible journal, some highlighters (glittery ones if you have them), and let’s dive into this verse together. I’ll tell you what I found, and you can add your own thoughts in the margins.
Because personal fellowship?
It’s more than a handshake after church.
It’s a spiritual superpower—straight from the heart of God. 💖

💬 The Importance of Personal Fellowship: Why Face-to-Face Faith Matters
During one of our family Bible study times (with snacks, of course!), Daddy opened to 2 John 1:12–13 and read these beautiful words out loud:
“Though I have much to write to you, I would rather not use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to come to you and talk face to face, so that our joy may be complete.”
He paused, then looked at us and said,
“John knew something really important—personal fellowship brings joy that letters just can’t. When we meet face-to-face, it’s not just about sharing words. It’s about sharing life, emotions, faith… all the little things that build us up as the body of Christ.”
That made my brain buzz like a happy science lab.
So I asked, “Why didn’t John just write everything he wanted to say? Wasn’t he already writing a letter?”
Daddy smiled (he loves when we ask Bible questions).
“Great observation, Ariel. John believed some things are meant to be shared in person—like encouragement, correction, celebration, even prayer. Personal fellowship helps us see each other’s hearts.”
Alice, who was hugging Mr. Fluffernutter with both arms (and one leg for good measure), asked,
“So being with people is better than just writing or texting them?”
“Exactly,” Yaya nodded, her knitting needles pausing mid-loop. “Letters are lovely. But presence—being together—builds something even more lasting. That’s when we share not just thoughts, but our hearts and our faith in real time.”
🕊️ Family Reflection Time
How can we bring joy to someone this week through personal fellowship?
Why do you think God created us for community instead of just giving us a Bible and leaving us alone?
Can you remember a time when a friend or family member helped you feel God’s love just by being with you?

💖 The Desire for Personal Fellowship: Why Face-to-Face Faith Matters
One of my favorite verses this week came from a tiny-but-mighty letter—2 John 1:12:
“Though I have much to write to you, I would rather not use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to come to you and talk face to face, so that our joy may be complete.”
Whoa, right? That line felt like it glowed in my Bible journal.
Joy gets completed when we’re together.
During our family Bible study, Daddy said something that really stuck:
“John understood that personal fellowship is the best way to encourage others. Being present—truly present—lets us share not just stories, but life itself. That’s how real relationships grow.”
I paused and asked,
“So it’s not just about teaching truth, but about living it together?”
Daddy nodded. “Exactly. We can text, write, or even blog”—(he winked at me)—“but face-to-face connection is where we share empathy, warmth, and the love of Christ in real time. That kind of fellowship builds the Church.”
Alice, who had just finished drawing sparkly hearts around a verse in her coloring Bible, added,
“So, it’s like… joy is more sparkly when you share it in person?”
We all laughed—but honestly? She nailed it.
🌟 Why Face-to-Face Fellowship Makes Joy Grow
Yaya added her favorite kind of wisdom—gentle and deep:
“There’s a fullness of joy that happens when we walk side by side in faith. Not just reading letters or watching sermons—but being there for each other. Celebrating, praying, listening. That’s how God designed community.”
She explained how faithful friendship isn’t just about hearing each other’s stories—it’s about sharing them: the happy parts, the hard parts, and all the in-between adventures that grow our hearts stronger in Christ.
Daddy wrapped up with something I think I want to write in glitter pen:
“True connection takes time. Real relationships require presence, not just posts. They reflect the love and closeness God wants with each of us.”
And just like that, I saw it clearly—
👣 Fellowship is a journey we take together, hand in hand, heart to heart, and always faith-first.
🧠 Let’s Wonder Together:
What’s one way you can build a face-to-face connection with someone this week?
Can you think of someone who brought you closer to Jesus just by being with you?
How does being together with someone change the way we feel, learn, or pray?

🌍 Fellowship Across Believers: God’s Global Family
While we were flipping through our Bibles together, Daddy pointed to the very last verse in 2 John:
“The children of thy elect sister greet thee. Amen.” — 2 John 1:13
At first, I blinked at it. One tiny sentence? But Daddy grinned and said,
“This verse is small but mighty. John is sending love from another church family—reminding us that the body of Christ stretches across cities, countries, and even oceans.”
That got me thinking… 🌎
“Wait! Does that mean people we’ve never met can still be our brothers and sisters in Christ?” I asked.
Daddy’s eyes twinkled. “Exactly. When we belong to Jesus, we’re part of one huge family—no matter where we live, what language we speak, or what kind of cookies we bake at Christmas.”
Alice whispered something into Mr. Fluffernutter’s floppy ear, then declared,
“So… I could have a faith-sister in Australia and a faith-brother in Peru, and we’re ALL in the same family?”
(Fluffernutter nodded solemnly. He gets it.)
💌 Faith That Connects Us Across the World
Yaya added her special kind of wisdom (the kind that feels like a warm hug):
“We’re never truly alone in our faith. Every believer you’ve never met is still part of God’s mission—to spread His love and truth across the globe. Isn’t that amazing?”
She reminded us that even our simple prayers can ripple across the world, encouraging someone we may never meet.
We’re all pieces in God’s great puzzle. Different shapes. Different colors. Same picture of love.
When we gather in worship—whether around a table, in a church, or across a video screen—we’re linking hearts with believers from all walks of life.
That’s the kind of fellowship John was writing about: one filled with unity, purpose, and joy.
“For we, though many, are one body in Christ…” — Romans 12:5
🌟 Let’s Wonder Together:
What’s one way to remind yourself that you’re part of something bigger—even when you feel small?
Who is someone far away that you can pray for today?
How can we celebrate our connection to the global body of Christ in a fun or creative way?

🌱 Cultivating Fellowship and Encouragement in Everyday Life
After we read through John’s final greeting in 2 John 1:12–13, something clicked.
His words weren’t just an old goodbye—they were a faith-filled challenge to live out real fellowship with real people in real time.
So we grabbed our journals (Alice used hers as a placemat for carrot chips) and started dreaming up ways we could practice this kind of joyful, face-to-face encouragement in our daily lives.
🕯️ Spending Time Together in Fellowship
I said, “What if I invited my friends over—not just for snacks—but to actually talk about the Bible and pray together? Like a mini faith party with memory verses and popcorn!”
Everyone smiled, but it was true. When we hang out in person—laughing, listening, praying—we grow closer not just to each other but to Jesus, too.
Face-to-face friendship gives us the chance to ask deeper questions, celebrate small victories, and help carry each other’s burdens.
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2
💬 Encouraging Others with Our Presence
Daddy said something that made me write in bold letters:
“A kind word spoken in person can change someone’s whole day.”
He reminded us that showing up matters. Whether it’s at church, in a small group, or just one-on-one at a picnic table, being there for others encourages their faith in big ways.
And here’s the secret bonus: when we lift others up, we grow stronger too.
🌍 Remembering We’re One Family in Christ
Yaya—knitting something squishy and mysterious—added her gentle wisdom:
“Even when we can’t be with someone physically, we can still support them spiritually. Prayer has no borders.”
She reminded us that our unity in Christ goes beyond geography.
From Rainsville to Rwanda, believers all over the world are connected by one faith, one hope, and one Savior. 💖
“There is one body and one Spirit… one Lord, one faith, one baptism…” — Ephesians 4:4–5
🧭 Let’s Wonder Together:
- What’s one way you can encourage someone in person this week?
- Have you ever felt comforted just by someone’s presence—even without words?
- How can you help your family or church make room for more fellowship time?
- Can you pray for a believer in another country today?

🏡 Building Fellowship: Small Acts, Big Impact
This week, our family took on a special mission—The Fellowship Challenge!
Every day, we looked for ways to spend face-to-face time with someone—offering encouragement, sharing joy, and building real relationships. Spoiler alert: It totally filled our hearts.
🍪 Cookies, Courage, and New Neighbors
One of my favorite moments? Alice and I baked cookies (sprinkles everywhere) and brought them to a neighbor who had just moved in.
It felt small… but as we stepped onto their porch, my stomach did a little flip of nervous-excited.
We learned about their journey to our neighborhood, and we shared some of our own silly family stories—like how Bash once chased a squirrel into a kiddie pool.
They smiled, laughed, and even said they’d been praying to make new friends.
“Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” — Romans 12:13
That simple visit? It opened a new door—not just literally—but spiritually, too.
🕯️ Dinner, Discipleship, and Deep Conversations
Later in the week, we hosted some friends for a cozy dinner and a Bible study night.
(Okay, technically it started with spaghetti and ended with cinnamon rolls… but somewhere in the middle, God showed up in huge ways.)
Everyone shared what God had been teaching them. Some talked about answered prayers. Others about hard things they were still walking through.
We laughed. We cried a little. We prayed together.
And guess what?
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” — Matthew 18:20
That verse? It came to life in our living room.
❤️ Why Fellowship Matters More Than Ever
Looking back on this week, I realized something BIG:
Fellowship isn’t just a church word—it’s a heart thing.
- It’s neighbors who feel seen.
- Friends who feel safe.
- Prayers that echo across dinner tables and settle in our hearts.
Each interaction became a little spark of God’s love—warming our home, lighting up our week, and reminding us we never walk this faith journey alone.
💭 Let’s Wonder Together:
How has someone’s presence or encouragement helped you feel closer to God?
Who could you visit this week with a kind gift or prayer?
What would it look like to turn dinner time into fellowship time?

🤝 Strengthening Faith Through Fellowship
When I read John’s final words in 2 John 1:13, something sparkled in my heart.
He could have written more, but he didn’t.
“I would rather not use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to come to you and talk face to face, so that our joy may be complete.”
Wow. That’s not just a sign-off. That’s a holy invitation.
John knew—and now I do too—that personal fellowship is a powerful part of growing our faith.
Whether it’s over cookies or conversation, faith grows best in the soil of real connection.
Letters, messages, and even blog posts (like this one!) matter, but they can’t fully replace what happens when we’re together.
Face-to-face fellowship brings:
- Shared laughter
- Honest prayers
- Encouraging words
- And that just-right feeling of knowing someone gets you
🌟 Let’s Be Fellowship-Builders
Let’s commit—like, sticky-note-on-the-fridge commit—to spending time with each other.
Let’s:
- Reach out to someone who might feel alone
- Pray together at dinner, not just in church
- Celebrate unity in Christ with friends near and far
- Uplift each other through both hard days and hooray days
Because every moment we spend in true Christian fellowship strengthens the body of Christ and reflects God’s heart.
“Encourage one another and build each other up.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:11
📝 I’d love to hear your stories in the comments! Let’s keep growing together.
With love, laughter, and a heart full of hope,
Ariel 💖
