Standing Strong: A Guide for Kids Waiting for Jesus

By Alice

One very crumbly morning (because I spilled muffin crumbs in my Bible), Mr. Fluffernutter and I were holding a super serious meeting under the kitchen table. I had on my sparkly rain boots, just in case Jesus came back during breakfast and we had to stomp through clouds. Mr. Fluffernutter wore his royal bunny cape and carried a jellybean compass. He said it was very important for finding the way to heaven… or at least to Yaya’s snack drawer.

“Commander Alice,” he whispered, “what if Jesus comes back while we’re brushing our teeth? Would we still sparkle enough to see Him?”

That question made my brain do a somersault.

So we crawled out from under the table and asked Yaya. She smiled (like her face was lit with birthday candles) and said, “Jesus promised to return, my love—and when He does, it’ll be the most joyful moment in history. But the real question is: how are we living while we wait?”

Ooooh. I scribbled that down on my glitter notebook: “How to Stand Strong and Not Fall Over While You’re Waiting for Jesus: A Guide by Alice (with footnotes by a bunny).”

This post is our treasure map.

It’s for every kid who’s ever wondered if clouds are made of whipped cream or if angels wear sneakers. It’s about standing strong even when your blocks fall down, being brave while waiting, and letting your light glow like a nightlight in the world—because Jesus is coming back. For real. For sure. For YOU.

So grab your cape, fluff up your bunny, and let’s tumble into the best kind of story: the one that reminds us how much God loves us and how exciting His promises are!

🏛️ Snail Mail from Paul (a.k.a. The Thessalonian Puzzle Mystery)

Did you know the Apostle Paul once sent a super ancient Bible letter to a super busy city called Thessalonica? I thought it was a kind of dinosaur at first—Thessalosaurus!—but nope! It was a real-life place in a Roman empire, stuffed with boats, camels, carts, and people talking about everything from spices to sandals to… Jesus coming back?!

📍Historical Clue Drop! Thessalonica was a giant swirl of people and ideas, like if a carnival, a library, and a snack market had a baby. Since it sat right on a mega-important trade road, people were always coming and going—bringing news, stories, and sometimes… fake news!

And that’s exactly why Paul wrote his letter. Because some folks were walking around saying things like:
🗯️ “Psst! Jesus already came back! You missed it!”

WHAAAT?! 😳

That made a bunch of believers nervous-jelly. Imagine thinking the Day of the Lord already happened and you were still in your pajamas! Confusing, right?

So Paul, superhero of truth-mail, wrote a letter to set the record straight and help the Thessalonians stand strong in their faith. He said, “Nope, friends. Jesus hasn’t come back yet—but don’t worry, He WILL. And here’s how to wait without wobbling.”

🕵️‍♀️ Our Family Mission: Decode the Truth!

In our living room (a.k.a. Truth Detective Headquarters), Daddy read Paul’s letter out loud and called the lesson “The Day of the Lord Clarified.” He used a whiteboard and a spoon (long story) to explain things. Ariel kept asking big brainy questions like, “What if people misheard Paul because the mail got soggy?” and Yaya told a story about a shepherd waiting for sunrise that made everyone a little teary and brave at the same time.

I took notes in my secret jellybean scroll:
📝 “Truth beats trickery. Always. Also, bunnies don’t like being confused.” —Commander Alice

Piece by piece, like building a marshmallow tower of faith, we understood that Paul’s message wasn’t just for Thessalonica people with fun sandals. It was for us. Right now. In our living room. With snack crumbs in our laps.

💡 What Can We Learn from Paul’s Thessalonian Letter?

  • Jesus hasn’t returned yet, but He promised He will—and promises from God are never broken!
  • We’re called to live bravely, kindly, and truthfully while we wait.
  • False teachers existed back then… and they still do sometimes. That’s why we read the Bible, talk with our family, and pray for wisdom.
  • Faith isn’t about being perfect—it’s about standing strong even when you feel a little wobbly.

✨ Let’s Chat Like Thessalonian Detectives:

  • Have you ever believed something that turned out to be untrue? How did you feel when you found out the truth?
  • What helps you feel brave when you’re confused or unsure?
  • Can you imagine writing a letter to a friend to help them trust in Jesus’ promises? What would you say?

📖 Bonus Bible Bit!

“Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first…”
—2 Thessalonians 2:3 (ESV)

🌟 Truth Alert: Jesus Is Totally Coming Back (For Real!)

Okay, okay. Let’s pause our pudding picnic and get real for a minute.

Back in ancient Bible days, the Thessalonians were having a major freak-out. People were whispering things like,
🗯️ “Guess what?! Jesus already came back and left you behind!”

Um—NO THANK YOU, said Paul (and also probably a bunch of wide-eyed believers hiding behind their camels).

So Paul grabbed his Holy Spirit-powered pen and wrote them a truth-bomb of a letter.

🧠 Paul’s Big Truth Reminder

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first…”
—2 Thessalonians 2:3 (KJV)

Yaya said this verse is like a spiritual weather forecast. It tells us what has to happen before Jesus returns, so nobody has to panic when someone says, “He already showed up at the grocery store last Tuesday.”

🦸‍♂️ Watch Out for the Bad Guy (Spoiler: He Loses)

Daddy explained it like this: before Jesus returns, a really sneaky rebel—called the Antichrist—will show up and try to trick a LOT of people. He’ll pretend to be bigger and bossier than God. (Which is ridiculous, because have you SEEN what God can do with just six days and some dust?)

Fluffernutter said if the Antichrist ever shows up wearing glitter shoes and claiming to be “King of Everything,” we should just throw marshmallows at him and run straight to the Bible.

But here’s the super sparkly truth nugget:
✨ Jesus will come back and TOTALLY DEFEAT HIM. ✨
Like, poof!—no more lies. No more fear. Just truth, peace, and Jesus being the forever King.

💛 Hope That Glows in the Dark

Yaya told us that this promise is what helps us stand strong even when things around us feel a little bananas. Jesus is coming back to make all things right—to dry tears, squish the bad stuff, and carry us into His forever-home full of light and love.

So we don’t have to be scared. Not even a little bit.
We just need to:

  • Keep our eyes open
  • Know God’s Word
  • Stay brave and kind
  • And hold hands with people who love Jesus (and maybe bunnies)

🧁 Let’s Think About It:

  • Have you ever been scared because someone told you something that didn’t feel true?
  • How do you know if a message really comes from God?
  • What helps you feel strong when waiting is hard?

📣 Alice’s Note-to-Heart:

“Jesus’ return isn’t scary—it’s a party-in-the-clouds kind of promise. I’m gonna wear my cape and bring pudding.”

🧭 Stay Grounded in God’s Truth (a.k.a. Don’t Get Tricked by Glittery Lies)

Okay, friends, let’s talk about TRUTH.

Big, bold, God-glowing TRUTH that’s stronger than a dragon’s sneeze and brighter than a glow stick in a closet fort.

Back when Paul wrote to the Thessalonians, he told them to stand strong in God’s Word—because people were wandering around saying all kinds of banana-sauce things that weren’t true. Like, “Jesus already came back” or “You don’t need to follow the Bible anymore.” WHAAAT?!

Paul was like: “Don’t believe every scroll you hear about. Check it with God’s Word!”

“So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you…”
—2 Thessalonians 2:15 (NIV)

🔦 Truth = Flashlight in a Foggy Forest

Yaya told us this story about a lady who tried to convince her that cats could talk and also that the Bible was just a bunch of poems. (Okay, maybe not the cat part… that was my idea.)

But Yaya stood firm because she knew the Bible. She said, “When we know God’s truth, we can’t be fooled—not even by very polite people with fancy pants.”

Then Ariel jumped in with the best comparison ever:
📣 “It’s like the Bible is your flashlight in the dark!”

YES! When you’re walking through the twisty maze of life, God’s Word is the thing that helps you NOT bonk your forehead into a wall of lies.

🧭 God’s Word = Compass That Never Lies

Daddy added his wisdom too:
🧔 “When you hold on to God’s Word, it’s like having an unbreakable compass. No matter how confusing life gets, you’ll always know which way to go.”

Mr. Fluffernutter says if your compass ever points to “Snack Time,” you’re still on the right path—as long as you take your Bible with you. 😂

✨ Let’s Talk Like Truth Explorers:

  • Has someone ever told you something about God that didn’t feel right? What did you do?
  • How does reading the Bible help you stand strong when things get confusing?
  • What’s your favorite Bible verse to remember when you feel unsure?

📝 Alice’s Guide to Not-Getting-Tricked:

If you hear something weird, pray about it first before believing it.

Always ask: “Does this match the Bible?”

Double-check with someone wise (like Yaya, or your Sunday School teacher… or your bunny).

Keep your flashlight (Bible) close—even under your pillow.

🌈 Trust God’s Plan (Even When Things Sound Super Spooky)

Okay. Deep breath, friends.

This is the part where some people get nervous because the Bible talks about stuff like rebellion and the Antichrist. (Which sounds like a villain from a very un-fun superhero movie.)

But guess what?
We don’t have to be scared.
We just have to be ready.
And trust God’s plan, because SPOILER ALERT:
Jesus wins. Always. Forever. Boom. 🎉✨

💬 Daddy’s Power Pep Talk:

“Jesus will win. Evil doesn’t stand a chance!”
—Daddy, a.k.a. Captain of Truth Talks

That’s what Daddy said after reading from Paul’s letter, and he said it with his “no-more-worrying” voice, which means business.

🔥 How Powerful Is Jesus?

Mr. Fluffernutter and I did the math (using glittery dice and a juice box). Here’s what we learned:

  • The Antichrist will try to trick the world.
  • But Jesus doesn’t even need a sword or a lightning bolt.
  • All He has to do is show up and speak, and BOOM, evil melts like an ice cube in the oven.

“…whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of His mouth and destroy by the splendor of His coming.”
—2 Thessalonians 2:8 (NIV)

WHOA. I mean, can YOUR words defeat evil empires?
Didn’t think so. 😄

🕯️ Yaya’s Shiny-Light Wisdom

Yaya told us something I’ll never forget. She said:

“It’s like shining a bright light into darkness. Darkness can’t fight back—it just disappears.”

Mic drop, Yaya. 💡💛

And that’s what Jesus does.
His truth is so full of light and love that all the lies and yucky stuff—poof!—can’t stay anymore.

🧠 Let’s Talk About Trusting God’s Plan:

  • Have you ever been scared of something you didn’t understand?
  • What helps you feel brave when the world feels confusing?
  • Can you think of a Bible story where light won over darkness?

📝 Alice’s “Jesus Wins” Checklist:

When things get wild ➡️ Remember: Jesus already wrote the ending… and it’s good.

When I feel afraid ➡️ Pray to the One who never loses.

When the world seems confusing ➡️ Hold tight to God’s Word.

When lies try to sneak in ➡️ Shine light by speaking the truth.

🏄‍♀️ Stand Firm in Faith (Even When the Waves Go “WHOOSH!”)

So here’s the thing about following Jesus:

Sometimes the world feels like a giant spinny teacup ride that forgot how to stop.
There’s fear. There’s confusion. There’s big news and weird rumors and people shouting things that don’t sound like love.

But Yaya said something that made my heart do a happy backflip.

“Staying faithful means keeping your eyes on Jesus and not getting distracted by fear.”
—Yaya, Queen of Quiet Wisdom

She compared it to walking across a balance beam—super wobbly unless you look straight ahead.

Then Ariel added her big-sister brain brilliance:
🗯️ “It’s like swimming to the shore in choppy water. You don’t stare at the splashes—you look where you’re going.”

Whoa. That made me imagine faith as a sparkly life vest with Jesus paddling beside you in a flamingo floaty saying, “You got this!”

⚓ Faith = Your Balance Beam + Life Vest + Super Light Saber

In Bible times, Paul told the Church to stand firm in faith—even when people were panicking about end-time stuff or getting confused by false teachers.

Guess what? People still get confused today.
But the answer hasn’t changed.

“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”
—1 Corinthians 16:13 (NIV)

When the world feels wavy, we anchor our hearts to Jesus.
When lies swirl around like spaghetti tornadoes, we hold onto truth.
When fear says, “What if you can’t do it?”
God says, “I’m with you. Always.” 🙌

🧁 Let’s Stand and Think:

  • What helps you stay focused on Jesus when life gets swirly?
  • Can you think of a time when you stood up for your faith, even when others didn’t understand?
  • What’s something that helps you feel brave when you need to keep going?

📝 Alice’s “Stand Tall Like a Jellybean Soldier” List:

Remember: storms don’t last forever, but God’s love does.

Eyes on Jesus—no matter how wild the world feels.

Pray, even if it’s just, “Help, Lord!” (That totally counts.)

Read your Bible like it’s a treasure map (because it is).

Practice balance—like real balance (Fluffernutter says hop on one foot while reciting a verse… good luck).

🧡 How I Plan to Stand Strong (A Fluffernutter-Approved Plan)

Okay, so here’s the scoop:
Jesus is coming back one day! 🎺💫
And I’m not gonna be twiddling my thumbs or sitting in a laundry basket when He does. Nope. I’ve got a Bunny-Brigade Battle Plan for standing strong in my faith—even when the world gets wobbly.

Wanna see my plan? Okay, okay! Here it comes!

📖 Step 1: Learn the Truth (Even the Weird Bits)

I’m gonna keep reading my Bible—even the parts with big names and fire tornadoes—and asking curious questions like,
“Did Jesus ever slip on a banana peel?” (Yaya says probably not, but I’m still checking.)

I want to memorize verses that keep my heart cozy and brave.
Like this one:

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you…”
—John 14:27 (KJV)

That’s like Jesus handing you a fuzzy blanket made out of forever-peace. I want to carry those words in my heart—even to the grocery store.

🙏 Step 2: Stay Super Close to God

I’ll talk to God every day—sometimes with big words, sometimes just whispering “Hi” when I’m brushing my teeth.

Prayer isn’t just bedtime stuff—it’s all-the-time stuff.

  • I’ll ask Him for courage when my jelly legs get wobbly.
  • I’ll read scripture like it’s my secret scroll of heavenly instructions.
  • I’ll look for ways to help people, like when I gave Ariel my last gummy bear because love is more important than snacks. (Usually.)

God’s timing is always perfect—even when I don’t get why things take so long.
(Still waiting for my prayer about a glitter trampoline to come true…)

📣 Step 3: Share the Good News (Like, Really Good News)

I’m going to tell my friends about Jesus—especially the part where He’s making the world brand new, like sparkly sidewalk chalk that never runs out.

Hope isn’t just a word—it’s a giant heart balloon that floats up when things feel heavy.

Maybe I’ll invite my friends to a family Bible study where we doodle in journals and eat muffins while learning about Jesus. Maybe I’ll even draw Fluffernutter comics with verses tucked inside. Because good news needs glitter.

🧠 Let’s Build a Stand-Strong Plan Together:

  • What verse helps you feel brave and full of peace?
  • What’s something you can do today to stay close to God?
  • Who could you tell about Jesus this week—with cookies or crayons or comics?

📝 Alice’s Stand-Strong Starter Kit:

✅ Bible with post-it notes and snack crumbs
✅ Favorite verse (memorized or doodled)
✅ A prayer list (even if it includes “pray for frogs”)
✅ A journal to write down big thoughts and small questions
✅ A heart ready to share God’s love—with anyone, even the grumpy lunch lady

🏮 Craft Time: Light of the Truth Lanterns (Now Featuring Bunny-Approved Sparkles)

Okay friends… get your glue sticks, your giggles, and your Bible verses ready—it’s lantern time! 🐰✨

Last week, Ariel and I had a craft emergency (which just means we ran out of glitter mid-verse) while making something super special:
“Light of the Truth Lanterns!”

These aren’t just any old lanterns. They’re scripture-glowing, hope-sharing, verse-hugging beacons of BRAVERY. They remind us that God’s Word is our light—even when the world feels like a really confusing scavenger hunt.

💡 Our Lantern Verse Picks

Ariel picked a super powerful verse that makes her feel safe when life gets stormy:

“I am the light of the world.”
—John 8:12 (KJV)

I picked a verse that makes me feel like I’m walking through the forest with a sparkly lamp tied to my bunny’s ear:

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
—Psalm 119:105 (KJV)

When we tucked tiny tea lights inside and turned off the room light—WHOA. It felt like God’s promises were glowing from inside our hearts… and out our glitter-covered fingers.

🖍️ How to Make Your Own “Light of the Truth” Lantern

Here’s how you can make your very own Bible verse lantern (snack breaks allowed):

  1. Grab a paper cup, jar, or recycled container.
  2. Cut out stars, hearts, or cross shapes to let the light shine through!
  3. Write your favorite Bible verse (or two!) on the outside.
  4. Decorate like a Jesus-loving artist—stickers, markers, sequins, ribbon, bunny ears… anything!
  5. Pop a flameless LED light inside and turn off the lights.
  6. Whisper “God’s Word lights my path” and do a slow-motion spin of joy.

(You don’t have to spin. But I always do.)

🎁 Let Your Light Shine for Others!

Daddy had this brilliant idea:
🧔 “Let’s make extra lanterns to give away!”

YES! I mean—why keep the sparkle all to ourselves?

We’re gonna give some to friends, neighbors, and maybe the mail lady. Every lantern becomes a reminder that Jesus is the Light, and that His truth helps all of us walk steady—even when our shoelaces are untied.

🧠 Let’s Talk & Craft:

  • What verse would you write on your lantern?
  • Who could you give a lantern to this week?
  • What does it mean to shine for Jesus in your own life?

📝 Alice’s Lantern-Making Survival Tips:

✅ Always pick verses that make your heart go “YES!”
✅ Glitter is not optional. (Unless your mom says it is. Then… use stickers.)
✅ Don’t worry if your lantern looks wobbly. The light still shines.
✅ Fluffernutter says the best lanterns include bunny doodles and surprise prayers.

🙏 A Prayer for Steadfast Faith (With Bunny-Sized Amen Power)

Last night, under the blanket fort (a.k.a. our Prayer Palace), Mr. Fluffernutter and I prayed together while snuggling a flashlight and two crackers. Here’s what we said:

“Dear Jesus,
Thank You for teaching us the truth about Your return.
When the world feels wobbly, help us hold on to Your promises.
Please help us stay strong in our faith, trust Your plan,
and share Your love with everyone—even cranky people and people who don’t like bunnies.

Let us be little lanterns of hope, shining bright with kindness and courage.
Thank You for lighting our path, calming our hearts,
and being the best Guide, forever and always.
Amen.”

Fluffernutter gave it three ear-wiggles of approval. 🐰

🌟 Your Turn: Shine & Share!

Wanna know a secret?
You can totally write your own prayer too!

Or you could…

  • 📝 Memorize a Bible verse like: “Peace I leave with you… Let not your heart be troubled…”
    —John 14:27 (KJV)
  • 📓 Start a journal with drawings, doodles, or prayers to Jesus.
  • 🕯️ Make a lantern (with lots of stickers!) and hang it by your bed to remind you:
    God’s light never burns out.
  • 🧡 Talk to your family about what helps you stand strong in faith.

💌 Until Next Time…

Keep praying, keep trusting, and keep shining like a marshmallow with a mission.

I’m so proud of your brave heart and big faith.

With bunny hugs and glittery hope,
Alice 🐰✨
