Becoming a Vessel of Honor: A Faith Adventure

Alice and Fluffernutter walking hand-in-hand from a dark forest into a bright, sunlit meadow along a glowing path, symbolizing spiritual transformation and hope inspired by 2 Timothy 2:21

By Alice

So this morning I spilled orange juice all over the prayer table. Like, everywhere. It puddled on our Bible memory cards, squiggled down the leg like a sticky waterfall, and Fluffernutter might’ve gone swimming in it… accidentally. Mommy sighed, grabbed a towel, and said something grown-uppy like, “Alice, let’s try to be more careful with the things we’re responsible for.”

But then—POOF!—my imagination exploded like glitter in a backpack. I gasped and whispered to Fluffernutter, “What if… I’m a fancy glass goblet from the King’s banquet table? And if I don’t clean up my juice, I’ll get demoted to holding broccoli water?”

That’s when Mommy smiled and opened her Bible to 2 Timothy 2:21. She read, “If anyone cleanses himself… he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.”

WHOA. A vessel of honor! That means we’re like royal cups—or maybe sparkly teapots or treasure-holding coconuts—designed for really important Jesus missions. But if we fill ourselves with selfishness, grumbles, or sticky sins, we kinda turn into moldy spaghetti bowls instead.

So today, I told Fluffernutter we are OFFICIALLY training to be Royal Vessels of Honor. That means:

  • No storing bad attitudes in our hearts.
  • No sloshing anger on people’s shoes.
  • Definitely no hiding jellybeans where the King’s grape juice goes.

Wanna join us? We’re hopping into a whole week of bunny-powered bravery, sin-fleeing sprints, and righteous treasure hunts. I even made us a sparkly sticker chart.

Let’s go, little vessels. We’ve got good work to be ready for. 🏃‍♀️✨

🏺 What Is a Vessel of Honor? (Is it sparkly? Does it have wings?)

Okay, first I thought a “vessel of honor” was maybe a flying teacup that delivers hot chocolate to heroes. Or maybe a golden hamster bowl for royal mice. But then Yaya said something way cooler—and way truer.

She said, “A vessel of honor is like a clean, shiny cup, ready to be used for something special—like serving your favorite guest a warm drink on a chilly day.” Then she smiled and tapped my nose (boop!) and said, “God wants us to be just like that—clean, ready, and full of good things to pour out.”

✨ “Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself… he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master.” —2 Timothy 2:21 ✨

So… not a hamster bowl. But still kinda magical, right?

Ariel (a.k.a. Miss Curiosity Journal 3000) asked, “So how do we become like those shiny gold and silver ones Paul talked about?” And guess what? Daddy didn’t even blink. He said, “We become vessels of honor by cleaning out the bad stuff—sin, grumpiness, selfishness—and choosing to fill up with things like love, faith, peace, and kindness.”

💭 Whoa. That made me picture a heart-shaped sink with glitter soap and a scrubby sponge that sings worship songs. (Note to self: ask Fluffernutter to invent this.)

🍯 Clean Hearts, Ready Hands

Being a vessel of honor doesn’t mean we have to be perfect (phew!). It means we’re on a faith adventure, scrubbing away the gunk and choosing the good stuff. Every time we:

  • Forgive someone
  • Say a prayer
  • Share a cookie
  • Or help clean the juice off the prayer table…

We’re becoming more sparkly-usable for God’s special plans. 💛

✨ Let’s Chat and Imagine Together:

Do you think Fluffernutter qualifies as a vessel of honor if he’s full of jellybeans and memory verses?

What kind of vessel would you be if God used your heart today?

What’s one little thing you can do this week to clean out a grumpy thought and pour in some peace instead?

🏃💨 Run From Sin, Chase Righteousness (No Time for Backward Bunnies!)

Okay, so—big confession—I once tried to outrun Bash (our dog) after accidentally taking his peanut butter snack. Spoiler alert: you can’t run fast with jellybean pockets and a guilty conscience. 🫣

But Daddy said something super serious and superhero-ish last night. “Paul tells us to flee youthful lusts,” he explained, flipping open to 2 Timothy 2:22. “That means we don’t flirt with sin, we flee it. Like running from a bear in the woods—you don’t argue with the bear. You RUN.”

And suddenly, my brain shouted: What if sin is like a sneaky banana peel monster? And righteousness is the sparkly castle with pancakes and peace inside?

🍌🏃‍♀️ Don’t Hug the Banana Peel

Yaya jumped in with her story voice (the one that makes everything feel like a bedtime story mixed with a trumpet). “Remember Joseph?” she asked. “When Potiphar’s wife tried to trick him, Joseph didn’t wait around or say, ‘Let me pray about this first.’ He ran—fast—because he wanted to stay pure and honor God.”

He didn’t wait. He didn’t reason. He didn’t grab a juice box first.
He just RAN. 💨

And guess what? That wasn’t weakness. That was bunny-brave boldness.

“Flee also youthful lusts, but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace…”
— 2 Timothy 2:22 ✨

🐰 Righteousness Isn’t Just a Church Word

It’s a direction. A path. A sparkly lane full of:

  • Honest choices
  • Brave ‘no thank-yous’
  • Jesus-trusting heart leaps

Sometimes, being righteous looks like choosing not to laugh at a mean joke. Or skipping a game that makes your heart feel icky. Or walking away from stuff that pulls you away from God—even if everyone else is staying.

Joseph showed us that honoring God might mean running away, not because we’re scared—but because we’re smart and safe and sprinting toward something way better.

✨ What About You?

Do you think Fluffernutter would run from sin—or try to negotiate with a villain using a carrot muffin?

Have you ever had to “run” from a bad choice before it got sticky?

What would it look like to chase righteousness this week with your family?

🍇 Fill Up on Faith Snacks (And Maybe Carrot Chips Too)

After running from sin like your tail’s on fire, Paul says to chase after good stuff! Like righteousness, faith, love, and peace. Basically, a whole snack basket of holy heart vitamins! 💜

Yaya, our family’s Bible Chef Extraordinaire, leaned back and said, “It’s not enough to just avoid the bad. We need to fill our lives with good things too.”

Ooooh. That made my brain wiggle.

Ariel (a.k.a. Official Analogy Assistant) nodded and said, “So, like… it’s not enough to stop eating candy all day—you gotta eat apples and crunchy carrots too.”

YEP. Avoiding sin is the first step. But then we need to feast on faith.

“Pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace…”
— 2 Timothy 2:22 🍎💖

🥕 Snackin’ on Spiritual Goodness

Daddy smiled and said something I’m going to doodle in my prayer journal later:

“Every time we forgive, help a friend, or pray, we’re feeding our hearts the good stuff.”

Like a soul smoothie! With banana-blessings and pineapple-patience!

So we made a list of “faith snacks” to munch on this week:

  • Singing a worship song while brushing our teeth
  • Writing a thank-you note to Jesus
  • Picking one kind thing to do for someone each day
  • Reading one verse and trying to act it out with puppets
  • Making a “Fruit of the Spirit” salad with real fruit and paper prayers

Yaya called them soul vitamins. I called them Fluffernutter’s Favorite Treats.

🍓 What About You?

What do you think love tastes like—maybe cinnamon toast? Or strawberry hugs?

What are your favorite spiritual snacks?

Have you ever felt better after filling your heart with something kind and true?

Jesus with a halo holding up a hand, surrounded by storm clouds, fire, and signs saying “Avoid Arguments” and “Be Gentle”

🧸 Be Gentle, Not Grumpy (Even in Superhero Debates)

Sooo… one time Ariel said Spider-Man would beat Wonder Woman in a race, and I yelled, “No way—she has a flying invisible jet!” Then Bash barked like he was on Team Spider-Man, and somehow our family devotion turned into a superhero courtroom.

Yaya raised her eyebrows like only grandmas can and said,

“Remember what Paul told Timothy? Don’t get stuck in silly arguments that lead nowhere. Be gentle, be patient, and always point people toward God’s truth.”

Oh. Right. Not everything is a battle—especially not over pretend jet speeds.

“Avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all…”
— 2 Timothy 2:23–24 ☁️🕊️

💬 Kind Hearts, Not Loud Voices

Yaya said it like this: Arguing over who’s the best superhero won’t help anyone love Jesus more. And suddenly, it made sense. Even if I know Fluffernutter would make an excellent sidekick for Captain America, maybe I don’t have to win every debate.

Daddy added,

“When we’re gentle and kind, even with people who disagree, we’re showing God’s love with our actions—not just our words.”

That’s like wearing peace-scented bunny slippers to every conversation! 💖🐰

🌼 Let Love Lead the Talk

Being right isn’t as important as being righteous. (Whoa—did that rhyme?) When we focus on loving others more than winning arguments, we plant seeds that grow into real trust and truth.

So now, if someone disagrees with me (even about who eats more pancakes—me or Bash), I try to:

  • Listen first
  • Ask kind questions
  • Hug my bunny and take a breath
  • Share what I believe without turning it into a glitter-blasted battle

Because truth sparkles brightest when it’s wrapped in kindness.

✨ What About You?

How can you show God’s love without needing to win the debate?

Have you ever had an argument that made your heart feel yucky even if you were right?

What would it look like to be gentle in a hard conversation?

💖 Alice’s Bunny-Brave Plan to Be a Vessel of Honor

So guess what? I made a real, honest-to-goodness plan to help me be a sparkly, ready-for-Jesus kind of vessel! Not the cracked clay kind. Not the spaghetti-stained one. I’m talking golden goblet with extra grace sprinkles. 🏆✨

Here’s how I’m doing it:

🏃‍♀️ Flee Sin (Like a Ninja Bunny!)

I’m gonna RUN from bad choices. Like zoom outta there.
That means saying no thank-you to being grumpy, bossy, or impatient (especially when I want the last cookie). Instead, I’ll choose:

  • Kind words (even when I feel cranky)
  • Big breaths when I want to stomp
  • Saying sorry faster than a sneeze

“Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
— 2 Timothy 2:19

Because when I run from sin, I’m running toward peaceful bunny meadows full of God’s goodness. 🌼

🌱 Pursue God’s Virtues (Like Picking Faith Flowers!)

I’ll fill my heart with love, faith, kindness, and patience. (Also possibly jellybeans of joy, but mostly the other stuff.)

That means:

  • Helping Ariel with her math even when she sighs dramatically
  • Praying for my friends—even the ones who forget my birthday
  • Giving hugs, stickers, or high-fives when someone feels blue
  • Listening when someone needs to talk (without talking back)

Because chasing virtues means making room for God to grow BIG things in my little heart. 🫶💕

🕊️ Be Gentle (Even if I Know the Right Answer First)

When I tell people about Jesus, I’ll do it gently, not like I’m trying to win a spelling bee. That means:

  • Being patient when someone asks, “Wait, what’s a verse again?”
  • Using my bunny voice, not my bossy one
  • Showing God’s love even when others don’t agree yet

“Be kind to everyone, able to teach, and patient when wronged.”
— 2 Timothy 2:24

Because sharing truth works best when it’s wrapped in kindness, like a Bible verse tucked into a glittery envelope.

✨ What’s Your Plan?

  • How could you run from sin this week like a superhero with squeaky shoes?
  • What’s one virtue you want to chase today? (Hint: They don’t hide under the couch.)
  • Can you think of a time you shared God’s truth in a gentle way?

🎨 Craft Time: Make Your Own Vessel of Honor Jar!

Okay, so Fluffernutter and I decided that if we’re going to live like golden goblets for Jesus, we need a sparkle jar to help us remember our mission. (Also: jars are fun. And stickers.)

So we made a Vessel of Honor Jar! 💖🏺

This jar is your official reminder to fill your heart with godly virtues—like love, peace, kindness, faith, and maybe glittery patience on tricky days.

Each little paper you put inside becomes a power-up for your soul. It’s like snack-sized truth nuggets for your spirit! ✨

“He will be a vessel for honor… prepared for every good work.”
— 2 Timothy 2:21

✂️ What You’ll Need for Your Vessel of Honor Craft:

  • A clean jar (like a mason jar, a spaghetti sauce jar, or a sparkly box if you’re fancy!)
  • Paper (cut into small pieces—hearts, stars, or bunnies work too)
  • Markers and crayons (to doodle your virtues in bold, beautiful colors)
  • Stickers or decorations (because God loves creativity!)

Optional but awesome:

  • Ribbons, googly eyes, buttons, glitter glue, or your mom’s leftover wrapping paper 🌈

📝 How to Make It:

Step 1: Decorate your jar like it’s going to live on a royal shelf in Heaven. Think hearts, crosses, rainbows, and “Jesus loves me” swirls.

Step 2: Write one godly virtue per paper. You can write:

  • Love (draw a big pink heart!)
  • Peace (maybe a dove or a nap emoji?)
  • Patience (draw a turtle with a crown!)
  • Kindness (add sparkles. Always sparkles.)

Step 3: Each day, pull a virtue from your jar like you’re choosing your secret mission from God.
Then ask: How can I live this out today?
Example: “Kindness… okay, I’ll give the last pancake to Ariel. Gulp.”

💡 Let’s Reflect and Imagine:

  • What does your Vessel of Honor Jar look like right now?
  • Which virtue do you need the most today?
  • Can you think of a time you really needed help remembering to be patient, gentle, or kind?

🕯️ A Prayer for Righteousness (With Bunny Ears Folded)

Last night, Fluffernutter and I cuddled under my blanket fort of bravery (with glow sticks!) and whispered this prayer to Jesus. We call it our “Vessel Prayer.” It’s short, shiny, and full of squeaky courage:

✨ “Dear Jesus,
Thank You for teaching us to run from sin and chase after righteousness.
Fill our hearts with love, faith, and peace.
Help us shine Your light with courage and kindness,
and be vessels of honor—ready for Your good work.
Let our hugs, our words, and our choices show Your love every day.
Amen.” ✨

We paused at the end. Just breathing. Just listening. And I told Fluffernutter, “That felt like a prayer burrito—warm, full, and wrapped in holy goodness.”

💡 Your Turn: Bunny Missions and Brave Moments!

Wanna be a vessel of honor this week? Here are a few brave and beautiful ways to try:

🎀 Make a Vessel of Honor Jar
Write down your good choices or kind moments—then read them out loud like treasure scrolls.

👂 Pause Before You Pounce
If someone says something weird or wrong or pineapple-y, take a breath. Try listening before leaping.

💌 Send a Love Note for Jesus
Make someone smile—a sibling, a neighbor, a teacher—with a sweet note, a hug, or a surprise chore!

☕ Serve With Heart
Make tea for someone. Or fetch a snack. Or let your little sister press the elevator button even when it’s your turn. 🙃

“Let your light so shine before others, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:16 🌟

Until next time, keep hopping toward goodness,
sharing sparkly prayers, and filling your days with jellybean kindness.

With sticker-covered armor and a heart full of hope,
