Key Takeaways:

  • Focus keyphrase: Paul’s missionary ambitions Romans 15.
  • Mission moves through prayer, partnership, generosity, and going.
  • Strategy aims for places with little gospel presence, then strengthens existing churches.
  • Families can model mission through prayer, encouragement, and practical service.

Hi friends! Have you ever looked at a map and wondered… What’s out there? I do. A lot.

One morning, during our family Bible study, we read from Romans 15—and something sparked in my heart like a little light turning on. Paul wasn’t just planning a trip. He had this huge dream to carry the good news of Jesus to places no one had ever heard of Him before. Not just next door. Not just nearby. All the way to the ends of the earth.

That kind of mission made my hands twitch for my notebook. I started sketching arrows from Jerusalem to Rome, to Spain, to places I didn’t even know how to spell yet. I drew little footprints, prayer dots, and even a tiny ship bouncing on waves. I wrote in bold, swirly letters:

“Tell them all. Even the faraway ones.”

What amazes me most is that Paul didn’t wait until everything made sense. He just trusted God and went. Even when it was hard. Even when it meant leaving behind comfort for courage. He believed that every person mattered—and that every step of the journey was worth it if someone new got to hear about Jesus.

So… what if we did that too? Not with ships or sandals maybe, but with kindness, prayers, and the stories we tell. What if your family, and mine, became part of Paul’s big vision—still going strong after all these years?

❤️ A Heart for the Unreached

Every great adventure starts with a question.

During one of our family Bible studies, we opened to Romans 15:14–33—and suddenly, Paul’s bold missionary journey came to life around our kitchen table. Alice, with her usual spark of imagination, grabbed Mr. Fluffernutter and marched around the living room, pretending to be Paul trekking across distant lands to tell people about Jesus. I, on the other hand, had a question stirring quietly in my heart.

“Why was Paul so determined to preach in places where no one had heard about Jesus? Wouldn’t it have been easier to stay and help the churches he already started?”

Daddy looked up with a thoughtful smile.

“That’s a great question, Ariel. Paul had a heart for the unreached. He believed the gospel wasn’t just for one group—it was for everyone. And he wanted to make sure everyone had the chance to hear it.”

🌍 Paul’s Mission to Reach the Unreached

Paul could’ve chosen the easier path—staying in familiar places and strengthening believers he already knew. But instead, he chose to walk straight into the unknown. I thought about the early church, facing pressure and persecution, yet still growing. And here was Paul, adding more fuel to that fire—not by staying safe, but by going further.

“So, Paul didn’t just do what was easy—he did what was needed,” I said. “He went where no one had gone before.”

Daddy nodded.

“Exactly. His journeys weren’t comfortable. He faced dangerous roads, language barriers, cultural resistance, and real threats. But Paul kept going, because his purpose was clear—bring the good news of Jesus to people who had never heard it before.”

✨ Spreading the Gospel with Courage and Compassion

I leaned closer, curious and inspired.

“It must’ve been amazing—to see lives change and new communities grow from hearing the gospel!”

“It was,” Daddy replied. “And it wasn’t just about preaching sermons. Paul formed real relationships. He wrote letters, shared encouragement, and helped new believers grow strong in their faith. That’s how the early church grew—through faith, courage, and love.”

Paul’s story lit a spark inside me.

“It’s wild to think how much one person can do. Even a few small steps can change everything.”

Daddy smiled again.

“That’s the heart of the gospel mission—one life touching another. Paul’s legacy reminds us that we’re all part of something bigger. Sharing Jesus’ love might begin with a conversation, a kind act, or just being willing to go where God leads.”

💬 Family Reflection Question:

Can you think of someone in your life who hasn’t heard about Jesus yet—or someone who feels unseen? What’s one way you can show God’s love to them today?

Fun Fact

“Illyricum” in Romans 15:19 refers to a broad region along the Adriatic coast. Ancient travel required partnerships, supplies, and letters of introduction—community mattered for every mile.

✉️ Paul’s Letter to the Romans: A Call to Join God’s Mission

Inside the glowing doorway of the TAM (Time Adventure Machine), we stepped into a cozy Roman house church. A small group of believers sat on woven mats and benches, leaning in as a scroll was carefully unrolled and read aloud. The words filled the air with purpose and promise:

“And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.”
—Romans 15:14 (KJV)

I sat beside Daddy, listening intently as he explained what Paul meant.

“Paul begins this part of the letter by affirming the Roman believers. He sees their spiritual growth and wisdom—but also reminds them that their faith isn’t just for themselves. It’s meant to be shared.”

🌍 A Global Gospel Vision

Paul’s letter wasn’t just a warm greeting—it was a gentle challenge. He wanted the Roman church to understand that their gatherings, prayers, and worship were part of something much bigger: God’s plan to bring the gospel to all people.

“So,” I asked, “Paul wanted them to see that their faith wasn’t just for them—it was part of a bigger mission to reach the world?”

Daddy smiled and nodded.

“Exactly. Paul didn’t want them to get comfortable. He saw their potential to help spread the gospel beyond their city walls. He reminded them that the good news of Jesus tears down barriers—between cultures, languages, and traditions.”

Paul described his role as a minister to the Gentiles as a grace-filled calling, one that required courage, humility, and complete trust in God’s purpose. He longed for the Romans to join in that mission—not just with words, but with their lives.

🤝 Encouragement, Purpose, and the Gospel Today

As I listened, something clicked deep in my heart. Paul wasn’t just writing to them… he was writing to us, too.

“Paul’s encouragement was more than a compliment—it was a rallying cry,” Daddy continued. “He wanted every believer to understand that we are part of the same story. When we live out our faith and share God’s love with others, we continue Paul’s mission in the world today.”

I thought about our family, our church, and even my own school friends.

Could our lives be little letters of hope, written by God and sent out into the world?

💬 Family Reflection Question:

What does it mean for your family to be part of God’s mission today? How can you live out the gospel in your home, school, or neighborhood?

FAQ

How does giving connect distant churches?

Sharing resources builds unity and trust, showing God’s care across language and culture.

🌎 Paul’s Mission: Preaching Where Christ Was Not Known

As the scroll unrolled further, the voice in the Roman house church grew stronger. We listened as Paul’s bold purpose unfolded:

“Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man’s foundation.”
—Romans 15:20 (KJV)

Daddy pointed to the scene in front of us and whispered,

“Paul didn’t just want to walk in the footsteps of others. He felt called to bring the gospel to brand-new places—to people who had never even heard the name of Jesus.”

💬 The Courage to Go Where No One Has Gone Before

I pictured Paul walking dusty roads, crossing rocky hills, and sailing stormy seas—all to reach people who had never opened a scroll or heard a single story about Jesus.

“That must’ve been really hard,” I said quietly, “going where no one knew anything about God.”

Daddy nodded, his voice gentle.

“It was. Paul faced unbelievable challenges—shipwrecks, prison cells, and people who didn’t always want to listen. But none of that stopped him. His love for the lost burned brighter than the fears in his path.”

Paul’s journey wasn’t about being the first to arrive. It was about bringing first light to places still in shadow—where the gospel had never been heard.

❤️ A Calling Fueled by Love

“Wow,” I whispered, “he really gave everything for this mission.”

“Absolutely,” Daddy replied with a smile. “This wasn’t just a job for Paul—it was his calling. Every town he entered meant learning new languages, understanding different cultures, and listening to people’s stories. He didn’t just preach—he connected. And those connections changed lives.”

As I sat there, imagining Paul penning his letters by lantern light, I had to ask,

“Do you think all those travels inspired him to write the letters in the New Testament?”

“Exactly!” Daddy said. “His letters were filled with the wisdom, encouragement, and truth people needed. He wasn’t just writing doctrine—he was writing love letters to churches, showing them how to live with faith, courage, and unity.”

✨ Paul’s Legacy and Our Own Journey

I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Paul’s life wasn’t easy—but it was rich with purpose. Every step, every trial, every town… it all pointed people toward Jesus.

“His journey was kind of like a map of grace,” I said.

Daddy nodded again.

“It was. Paul’s legacy reminds us that sharing the gospel often starts in the hardest places. But through faith, love, and a heart for others, even one person can make a difference.”

💬 Family Reflection Question:

What would it look like to share Jesus with someone who’s never heard His name? How can your family help bring light into those places—near or far?

📖 Memory Verse:

“Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named…”
—Romans 15:20

✈️ Paul’s Travel Plans: A Mission to Spain

The TAM shimmered again, and suddenly we were watching another powerful moment unfold. A house church leader carefully read from Paul’s letter:

“Whensoever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you.”
—Romans 15:24 (KJV)

My eyes grew wide.

“Wait… Paul wanted to go all the way to Spain? That’s so far! Why was that so important to him?”

Daddy smiled, eyes twinkling with the same wonder.

“Great question. In Paul’s time, Spain was considered the edge of the known world. But more importantly, it was spiritually unreached—a place where the name of Jesus hadn’t yet been shared.”

🌍 A Heart That Reaches Beyond Borders

Paul’s desire to travel to Spain wasn’t just about distance—it was about mission. He didn’t see the gospel as something to keep close; he saw it as something to carry as far as possible.

“He was ready to take the good news to the farthest corners,” Daddy added, “because he believed everyone should have the chance to hear about Jesus.”

That kind of faith amazed me. Paul wasn’t interested in what was easy—he was focused on what was needed. His vision wasn’t limited to one city, one country, or one culture. He believed the gospel was for every nation, and he was determined to go wherever God sent him, no matter how far.

“His vision wasn’t limited by geography—he wanted to proclaim the good news wherever God led.”

✨ Following God with Faith and Courage

I sat back, thinking about how brave Paul had to be.

“He didn’t seem afraid of the hard stuff—he just wanted to follow God’s calling,” I said, more to myself than anyone else.

Daddy nodded.

“That’s what makes Paul’s journey so powerful. He trusted God even when the path was full of unknowns. He didn’t wait for comfort—he moved forward in obedience.”

That moment made me think: maybe living with purpose always means stepping into places we’ve never been before—whether that’s a new school year, a new friendship, or sharing our faith with someone who’s never heard it before.

Paul’s passion for reaching the unreached is a beautiful reminder: when we follow God’s call, even the scariest places become part of His story of hope.

💬 Family Reflection Question:

Can you think of a time when you had to do something unfamiliar or hard for the sake of helping someone else or sharing your faith? What helped you be brave?

📖 Memory Verse:

“I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you…”
—Romans 15:24

Fun Fact

Ancient believers shared meals as part of worship and care. Hospitality still opens doors for friendship and faith conversations.

🤝 The Role of the Church in Mission

The TAM shimmered again, and a new scene appeared—this time focused not on a journey to a faraway land, but on the heart of the church. We watched as Paul shared a special message about unity and compassion between believers:

“For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem.”
—Romans 15:26 (KJV)

Daddy leaned closer and whispered,

“Paul knew the gospel wasn’t just something you said—it was something you lived. This gift from the Gentile churches was a powerful expression of love and unity. It showed that the church cared deeply for its members—no matter where they were from.”

💌 A Gift That Meant More Than Money

The believers in Macedonia and Achaia didn’t just send money—they sent hope. Their generosity wasn’t a transaction; it was a connection. This offering reminded the Jewish Christians in Jerusalem that they were not alone—that their Gentile brothers and sisters in Christ stood with them.

“So… the church was kind of like a big family?” I asked. “They helped each other, even if they lived far apart?”

Daddy smiled.

“Exactly. Paul wanted the Romans to see that faith was about more than preaching. It was about partnership. These acts of love were a living picture of the gospel—showing the world what God’s grace looks like when it flows through people.”

🌍 Unity That Crosses Cultures

This contribution also reached back into the church’s shared spiritual roots. The Gentile churches were giving to those who had once carried the message of God’s covenant to the world. Now, they were returning that blessing—not just with words, but with action.

“This wasn’t just about helping the poor,” Daddy explained. “It was about reconciliation. It was about remembering that in Christ, there is no division—no Jew or Gentile. There is one body. One church.”

I nodded slowly, the meaning settling in my heart.

“So the gift showed more than kindness… it showed healing.”

“Yes,” Daddy said. “It showed the world what love really looks like—love that builds bridges, not walls.”

🕊️ A Picture of God’s Kingdom on Earth

As I looked at the faces in the Roman house church, I saw it too—smiles of gratitude, eyes shining with tears, hands holding hands. This was the church as Paul envisioned it: united, generous, and alive with the Spirit of Christ.

Each act of giving was a brushstroke on a bigger canvas—one painted with God’s grace, unity, and purpose.

💬 Family Reflection Question:

When someone in your church family is hurting, how can you show them they’re not alone? What small gift or act of love could make a big difference?

📖 Memory Verse:

🙏 Paul’s Prayer and Dependence on God

As Paul closed his heartfelt letter to the Romans, he shared something deeply personal—a humble request:

“Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me.”
—Romans 15:30 (KJV)

The room fell quiet as we listened. Paul, who had traveled so far and done so much, was asking for one thing—prayer.

Daddy pointed to the passage and said,

“Even though Paul was brave and full of faith, he never acted like he could do everything on his own. He asked others to pray for him because he understood the strength that comes from the church working together in prayer.”

💬 The Power of Shared Faith

That truth stirred something inside me.

“So, even Paul—the missionary, the preacher, the writer of letters—needed help. He needed people,” I said, a little surprised.

“Exactly,” Daddy replied. “Paul’s courage didn’t come from being alone. It came from being connected—to God and to the believers who supported him. When he asked for prayer, it wasn’t weakness—it was wisdom.

Paul’s prayer request was a reminder that the Christian journey isn’t a solo hike. It’s a shared road, with arms linked and hearts lifted. When one of us stumbles, others hold us up. When we face fear, others pray courage into our hearts.

🤝 A Tapestry of Trust

Daddy leaned in and added,

“Paul’s faith was strong because it was woven together with others’. Every prayer someone offered became a thread in the tapestry of his mission.”

That made me think. Maybe the most powerful thing we can offer someone isn’t advice or answers—it’s prayer.

“We can learn from Paul,” Daddy continued. “Don’t be afraid to ask others to pray for you. And don’t forget to pray for them, too. That’s what makes the church so special—it’s a place where faith gets multiplied when it’s shared.”

✨ A Network of Love and Prayer

I thought about our own church, about my friends, and about the quiet moments when someone shares a struggle.

“I guess prayer is kind of like building a bridge,” I said. “Every prayer connects us—me to them, us to God.”

Daddy smiled.

“Yes. And those bridges are strong enough to carry hope, healing, and courage from one heart to another.”

💬 Family Reflection Question:

Have you ever prayed for someone who was going through a hard time—or asked someone to pray for you? How did it make you feel to know you weren’t alone?

📖 Memory Verse:

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” —Galatians 6:2 (KJV)

💝 Support Generously

Giving doesn’t have to mean money—it can mean time, meals, supplies, or prayers. When we give with joyful hearts, we help keep the mission going strong.

Support those doing gospel work by contributing in ways that show your love in action.

💡 What’s something your family could donate or share this month to support a ministry or family in need?
